Greetings! My name is Nohelia Gonzalez (she/her). Born and raised New Yorker riding the waves of change within our city. I currently live in Brooklyn with my girlfriend of 7 years and wish to get married and have kids in the near future. I am currently enrolled at BMCC majoring in early childhood education. I juggle school and a full time job as a Toddler Teacher. I have been working with children of all ages for about ten years, plus the added experience of being an older sister. People tell me I am lucky to have found my passion in working with children, and although I am confident about that decision, I am still indecisive of which path to take with that, but as of now, enjoying the journey and letting the todd-nadoes (tornado toddlers) bring smiles and laughter to my every day life. On my free time, I enjoy attending concerts and raves (it’s a yes from me for any form of live music and entertainment). I enjoy traveling and experiencing new adventures. I look forward to this class and having a space to learn and openly talk about challenging topics that are important in our real world.

Ameer Chambers Discussion #1 Introduction
Hi! I’m Ameer Chambers, but I prefer to be called Meer. I go by He/him/His, She/Her/Hers, and They/Them/Theirs. I don’t really care what you refer to me as, as long as you’re being respectful. I would prefer not to label myself with gender because I know gender is a social construct, but because society likes labels I say i’m non-binary. The more I learn about myself in regards to gender, sexuality, and who I am in general, the more I question why society is the way it is. I’m a music major and this is my 4th semester. I graduate in the summer. For school, I play the clarinet, but I can play other instruments. I can sing too, but I prefer not to, although I am slowly getting back into it for fun. I like to create instrumental arrangements of songs I like. I want to perform and eventually settle down and be a teacher. I can see myself starting out as a high school band teacher then eventually being a professor after I’ve gained more wisdom in life. Outside of the music world, I like to draw and I’m also getting into acting. I am working on a comic that will be on webtoons. I also like wrestling and one day in the nearish future outside of my music career, i’d like to be a pro-wrestler in WWE, but I want to do more than just be a wrestler. I want to make and change history, not just with wrestling, but in music, acting, and wrestling. I believe more queer and POC representation is needed in the classical music world, mainstream acting, and mainstream wrestling and I want to help add to the representation and open doors for kids of future generations. I’m taking this course this semester for two reasons. The first reason is; because I find the topics interesting and I want to further my knowledge in gender, feminism, and queer studies. The second reason is because I wanted to take this last semester, but life got in the way, so I’m retaking it this semester, with a better mindset!
Crystal Cordero Discussion 1
Hello everyone! My name is Crystal. This is my last semester at BMCC and I am currently applying for different nursing programs. I have always dreamed of becoming a neonatal intensive care unit nurse. I would love to spend my time helping and caring for tiny babies. I have lived in New York my whole life. I was born and raised in the Bronx. My family recently moved to Pennsylvania and I stayed behind because of work and school. It has been such a big change for me and I cannot visit them as much as I want to because I am so busy. I love to read romance novels and watch horror movies. Lastly, I love to spend time with my fur baby, Bentley. He is a 5 year old Shih Tzu and I don’t feel as lonely when I’m with him. I chose this class because I would love to know more about feminism and gender. I know we live in world where many people see things in life as black and white. This is why I love going into a class with an open mind. For a class suggestion, I always recommend Roxane Gay: Confessions of a bad feminist. I am looking forward to this class and getting to know everyone!

My name is Donya-Shae but everyone calls me Shae, my pronouns are she/her/hers. My name Donya is of Arabic and Persian origin in Arabic it means the world and in Spanish and Italian it means lady. The Shae part of my name is of Irish origin and it means full of majesty. When picking my name my older sister knew the meaning of the two names and told my parents, my dad’s name is David so he loved the fact I will have a D in my name as well. My Major is Communication Studies. After this semester I just need one science class to graduate and I plan on getting my bachelor’s in Public relations and minor in Human Resources. I grew up on the Eastside of Harlem but I now live in queens I got my own apartment about 4 years ago now. The part of queens I live in is called Jamaica I’m about 30 minutes from 34th street. My family is big I have 4 siblings from my mom and 3 siblings from my dad. In total, I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers I’m the middle child on both sides. My nationality is Dominican and Jamaican, I have been to both islands they are beautiful. I live with my partner in queens we have been together for 5 years we have a fur baby together which is a toy-size Yorkie poo who is 3 years old his name is Bando. My birthday is February 23 I will be turning 28 years old, I am a Pisces which is a water sign. I’m taking this class because I have always gone through situations where I was discriminated against for being a woman. When looking up this class it seem very interesting to me and made me feel like I would view things through a bigger lens after. My favorite food will have to be pizza for something quick while outside but I do enjoy cooking nothing will ever beat a home-cooked meal! My favorite meal to make is stuffed salmon and mashed potatoes. The most unusual food I’ve eaten is Duck from a Thai restaurant, surprisingly it was so good. My favorite restaurant in NY is Brooklyn Chop House located in lower Manhattan. I advise everyone to go there at least once it is an Asian fusion steakhouse. My top three go-to when going there is the lobster fried rice, the chicken satay, and the lamb chops my favorite drink is their frozen lychee and my non-alcoholic drink will be their Shirley Temple ( sprite and cherry grenadine). My favorite color is green all hues of green not just a specific one. When it comes to my favorite place to visit it will have to be anywhere that has a beautiful beach, the water and waves are very calming to me and brings a type of peace to me that’s hard to find at times. A podcast I’ve listened to that is tied to race will be Code Switch. Code Switch speaks about race around the world by showing empathy with humor they make it relatable.

Discussion Post #1 Introduction
Hi everyone you can call me Harmony. I’m originally from Nigeria but I currently live in the Brooklyn United States of America. I’m a teacher and work with children of ages zero months to four years old. I am 36 years old and a mother of two.
I would like to share some of my childhood memories with you guys. I had so much fun growing up as a little kid especially in elementary school, with my family and friends. I remember one evening; my dad took us to a cinema to watch movies. My brother and I used to run to the car’s front seat. I was 6 years old. I always wanted to sit in the front of the car just to enjoy the views. I still remember the sounds of my dad’s voice “D girl you are too little to sit in the front” as he fondly called. I will scream and cry and he would give me a biscuit. The biscuit was made out of milk, so delicious and yummy.
My pronounce are they/them/theirs and she/her/hers. I major in early childhood education. I look forward to doing good in this class with the help of my professor and classmates. I selected this subject so that I could comprehend the variations that gender has on people’s “social, political, and economic” lives. Additionally, I would like to know how this can advance society and how I can apply the concepts to my line of work.
Lastly, I love teaching as it allows me to inspire kids to think beyond their comfort zone while I keep learning and growing in knowledge as well. I hope it will help me think critically and understand how this topic affects our beliefs, culture, race, and ethnicity. I find this topic interesting and appreciate learning about it.
Shanice Brown DB#1
Hello, everyone! My name is Shanice and i am excited to be a part of this class. A little bit about me: I am from Brooklyn, Ny, and currently in my second year studying at BMCC with a liberal arts major. i prefer to be called using pronouns she/her. I decided on taking this gender woman studies class because it seem very interesting to learn about sexual differences, gender, masculinity and femininity. I am looking forward to learning and participating in this class, and i can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together. One thing you may not know about me is i like to design clothes and in the future i hope to come out with a clothing line. One thing i dislike is being around negative thinking people.
