A little bit about me: I am from Brooklyn, Ny, and currently in my second year studying at BMCC with a liberal arts major. i am looking forward to learning and participating in this class, and i can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together. My name is Katarzyna Gawin, but everyone calls me Kat. It was my decision to be addressed this way. Before they would call me Kasia. Kasia is an abbreviation from Katarzyna, and also the name of a child in my country. It sounds pleasant and comfortable so I would be Kasia for years. Common nickname in Polish culture. So I changed my name. You just don’t change your name without thinking about it.You don’t tell all your friends and family that you aren’t what you have always been for them, because your name is you. So you need to ask everyone to change a whole lot of you. For you! I did all that after seven years of living the cruel and unsettling life of an emigrant in New York City at age 27. I was born Poland, Krakow. I like to draw, run and take pictures. I have a daughter and family not far from me. I have many friends far and I miss them. I love New York and breathe here deeply. I want to stay here.
