A society is a large group of people that live together in an organized way, making decisions about how to do things and sharing the work that needs to be done. As we move to a more technological culture, the tool of social media has had a greater influence on society positively and negatively. In the same fashion, this tool has had the same impact at an individual level.

Social media has many positive sides that a lot of people enjoy. One of the main positive effects is that It helps to maintain communication with our loved ones or anyone around the world. By allowing this broad communication it has also helped connect different societies. For example, groups of people that have different beliefs may have a civil discussion and put aside their differences on a social media platform. To that same effect, social media helps people that share the same idea interact with each other. Additionally, social media allows people to meet other people and also to learn and understand other societies. Furthermore, a social media platform is a great way to spread important news quickly and is useful when updating communities on important information such as an emergency or weather. Lastly, these platforms help and inspire others to do better in society.

In contrast, social media has some negative sides as well. One negative side is the increase of extremism and hate towards other societies. Social media has provided different platforms where bad social groups influence others with their evil theoretic towards a specific belief or trait. Additionally, it has made easier for people to bully others, since, there’s no way of pursuing someone for commenting on a malicious comment. We can call this cyberbullying, other examples of cyberbullying aggressive and unpleasant emails, inappropriate private messages, and, putting unfavorable or manipulated photos of the bullying target on a platform. It is important to mention that Cyberbullying is a huge problem in our current society, especially in the young generation. Furthermore, social media has also allowed the spread of misinformation to millions of people in a very short amount of time, such as the state of society, the safety of certain products, healthcare information and about a politician. Moreover, social media has become an extreme addiction to many people regardless of the society they come from.

As technology and society keep developing social media is going to be part of everyone’s lifestyle. In conclusion, social media is a tool of society that can harmful or beneficial. However, we as a society need to adapt those benefits and eliminate those harmful effects of social media.
