Project: Mini Ecological Studies 1/2/3

The three parts of the Mini Ecological Study highlight various aspects of community life and challenges in the St. Marks and Ralph Ave neighborhood of Brooklyn, focusing on the social services infrastructure, particularly in relation to family and children’s needs. Part one of the Mini Ecological Study discussed a neighborhood walk that showcases the community’s commitment to supporting its members across all ages. It also highlighted the presence of local law enforcement and fire services that contribute to the neighborhood’s safety and sense of community. Part two discussed the challenges faced by the neighborhood including broader social issues like the coronavirus pandemic, drug trafficking, and poverty. The study also discussed systemic issues in healthcare accessibility and the overall impact on children’s development. The final part of the study focused on the need for enhanced resources and support for families with children who have special needs, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. It outlined an advocacy plan aimed at better integrating services, increasing accessibility to existing resources, and developing specialized programs to ensure all children can thrive. The plan also included initiatives for community policing to enhance safety and trust within the community. All three studies collectively painted a picture of a community striving to support its members through integrated social services, with particular attention to children and families facing significant challenges.
