Course Description
As the first level of jazz and popular music aural skills, the class covers the syntax of Western popular music through rhythm, singing, sight-singing, and dictation exercises. The historical scope of consideration will be largely, but not exclusively, defined by North American and European popular music genres from the 1950s to the present. A focus of the class will be the practical application of theoretical knowledge to practical musicianship skills.
