Hi, my name is Ivan Chen, and my pronouns are he/him. I was born in the Manhattan Hospital but I was sent to China when I was born. I came back to the United States when I was 5 and I currently reside in Queens, New York. I am a Liberal Arts Major in BMCC, and I do not know where to go from there once I get my Associates Degree. I graduated from a specialized high school and kind of trailed through life the way I see fit. To be quite honest, I don’t believe I was a very good person during that time. When the pandemic hit, I spiraled into a depressive state due to social isolation. During that time, I had done a lot of self reflecting and I started questioning myself, the reason I was the way I was, and eventually the society that I lived in. I’ve seen many debates on issues of race, sexuality, and gender on social media and I slowly drifted to the side that made more sense to me. I met people who have helped me see the flaws of the era that I lived in and educated me on the history of this new nation. My academic advisor had many options of classes for me and I specifically chose this one, because I believe this could further educate me on the subject that I would discuss with people close to me during my free time.
