My name is Beatrice, and my pronouns are she/her I’m originally from Brooklyn, but I reside in Manhattan, this is my last year as a communications major at BMCC. I started off as a liberal arts student and i took Communications 100 with Professor Glaser and changed my major immediately. I’m an adult student with two children of my own who are in school, one is 7 and one is 12. I’ve been in school since the pandemic, first obtaining my G.E.D after failing the math portion several times, I finally got it in August around that time so that was a nice birthday present to me. Going through that taught me not to give up on myself and always keep myself focused and eventually “you will get there on your journey.” I plan to become an editor or copywriter or perhaps the first elder woman of color to be a news anchor at Vice News. the reason i took this class is so that I can understand the complexities of the current system and why as women we still have reached a plateau in society as I believe we should, yes There have been some strides but more needs to take place so I’m quite sure that in this class i will come to an understanding about women equality and rights that pertain to today and not from its past. Also, this would be a great class to learn and instruct my daughters from because I don’t know if they will have this opportunity when they go to college ready so gender women’s study will be used as a story telling experience for my children perhaps their children as well
