On the 6 train line, I reside in the south Bronx. I reside close to the 41st precinct. For the past 16 years that I have lived in the same building, not a single thing has evolved. Numerous pieces of graffiti can be found within the structure, which also lacks security cameras and has a doorway that is virtually open to anyone who wants to enter. The majority of the residents are Hispanic, and there are hardly any white people in the area. There has never been a restriction on lingering outside the residence, which has led to a lot of disagreements with my other residents. My neighborhood recently evolved into an extremely unsafe place. Around the block from where I live, at a school called PAL, an athletic league center school, there was a shooting that resulted in the death of one child and the injury of another. I have also been attacked outside of my building, but I was helpless to stop it because there were no security systems nearby or any bystanders to help out due to not wanting to be involved or didn’t know me as much to help me out. The community may feel safer than it did before as a result of law officers patrolling the area. I’ve learned that there is a lot of improvement needed in this community before people can feel secure knowing that the police are on the scene to assist them. I think the only way to support my community to make it a better place is by patrolling and developing stronger relationships with law enforcement and our own neighbors and people around us , a concept is that when officers act with a mindset centered on procedural fairness, they naturally flow while addressing conflict and striving to comprehend it. These strategies not only strengthen ties within the community but also increase the security of monitoring. Additionally, by forming modest collaboration with the neighborhood and determining what is required to assist with and combat violence.
