Project: Active Learning Pedagogy with Open Education Resources for Online General Astronomy Class

- CloneableCloneable
Do online active learning tools improve learning in online or hybrid open education general astronomy survey classes?
In this fellowship, I created curriculum materials based on freely available, active learning methods, tools and software, e.g. PhET, Foothills,UNL, etc. tools, that build on the successes of my extensive video-lecture Astronomy 110 instruction, using the free, OpenStax Astronomy2e e-textbook. The new materials utilize a great variety of extensively developed, web-based and downloadable, free software and visualizations to add concept demonstrations and active learning elements to the lecture, homework, and lab components for the department’s astronomy classes (Ast 108, 109, 110), delivered in any mode – hybrid, fully online, as well as in-person classes, at BMCC.
