Course Description

In this class, we will learn about the history of Asian immigration from 1848 to the present, the social construction and experience of race in the U.S., and the intersection of multi-ethnic Asian American identity with class, gender, sexuality, and ability, immigration status and other social positions. This course will use historical writings, films, television, music, art, fictional pieces and other multi-media work to critically engage narratives of Asian American communities.
