Artist Statement

With this monument my group intended to highlight significant
events throughout 2020 rather than focus on COVID-19 specifically.

One thing we all have, is the same 24 hours and among those 24 hours it wouldn’t take long to recognize that NYC is a melting pot of people from all backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities. Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different?
Well, what if things did change with little observation, what if we were all more connected than we thought?

In the year 2020 the “BlackLivesMatter” Movement was the first of its kind to go Global. – People protested from every country of the world. The 2020 Election set a record for voter turnout with nearly 160 million people at the polls and while COVID-19 caused many hardships and fatalities, COVID-19 also brought many of us closer together on social media and at the dinner table. As one we learned resilience, gratitude, and adjustment.

Our true inspiration was unity, here we bring to you a monument that visualizes strength in numbers and a light at the end of the tunnel.
