Overview
BMCC students created their designs based on oral histories they collected from people they know who were in New York City through the height of the Coronavirus crisis and the Black Lives Matter marches. The people they interviewed represent a cross-section of New Yorkers including essential workers such as medical professionals, postal workers, police, grocery store, delivery workers, family, friends, and neighbors. Based on these interviews and their own experience, students then learned the technology and worked in small groups to design a monument or memorial and decide where to locate it in New York City.
