Bell Hooks shows on Feminist Politics the nature of feminism and the misconception of feminism by people. She says that people should know more about feminism end a sexist oppression.
Snapshot 1
I decided to choose these images because it’s something that caught my attention in the article of “Sex & Gender 101”. In society we usually see that girls play with toys that are for females such as dolls, kitchen toys, etc. Boys should be playing with cars or anything that is male. Which is something that people always look at because a boy can’t be playing anything feminine or a girl can’t be playing anything that is masculine. I believe that it shouldn’t matter what a girl or boy play because they’re just children playing toys that catches their attention it shouldn’t be based on what gender they are.
Sexism, gender, feminism
Every time I tell a male that I can drive they do not believe me and laugh disregarding my statement. Some male that I get a chance to drive around comment that I am a good drivier and are oddly surprised.
My brother in law was a stay at home dad once and for the amount of months that he was his friends would always laugh at him and say that his wife was the person who wore the pants in the relationship.
Reading the articles reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend. He was saying that in the news they were saying that many people have concerns about the new governor.
Sex and Gender Snapshots
I chose this image because every person is different. Everyone has their own gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, etc. I think it’s important to remember everyone is different and to change the automatic assumption.
Both readings show there are many layers to comprehend to understand sex and gender. There are also many layers to comprehend to understand feminity. If we really took the time to comprehend every layer we can create a more understanding world.

Feminism
Mass of people usually mistake feminism for gender equality due to the intense media influence. As feminism focuses on the “movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation and oppression”, gender equality focuses on perpetuating the norms that men are above women/ or women are the subordinates of men. Through the misunderstanding of what feminism and gender equality was, females who participated in freedom struggles were provoked and began the women’s liberation. “what is women’s liberation”. It is a movement to combat sexual discrimination and to gain full legal, economic vocational, educational opportunities for women, equal to those of men. However, after women realized that men were not the only group that supported “sexist thinking, that females were included; it caused a lot of disruption within the feminist world. Sisterhood could not be as strong and powerful. Many awareness groups were disrupted by the discussions of class and race. As stated, “white woman began to assert their need for freedom after civil rights, just at the point when racial discrimination was ending and black people, especially black males, might have attained equality in the workplace with white men”. After these issues overshadowed the main focus of the revolutionary feminist, they decided to rebrand their motive and focus. Fortunately, it was acknowledged but not made known to the public. Feminism is a movement made to support and appreciate the good intentions of not just females, but males as well. “Feminism is for everyone”.

Feminism has always been an important topic in our society today and one of the greatest feminists I love is Audre Lorde, she fought for black women, feminism, and civil rights. she also went ahead to urge women to break through their silence because it is the only way to break through to each other. In this week’s reading Feminist Politics, some of the things I got to learn or that stood out for me about feminism is the saying that “Masses of people think that feminism is always and only about women seeking to be equal to men but rather it is for everyone. Also, the fact that books/works that educate people about feminism like “Feminist theory: From Margin to center which offers the vision of feminist transformation are not given mainstream attention makes it a little hard for people to fully understand what feminism is all about. Just like the reading said “They have not rejected its message, rather they do not know what the message is.

Hi Professor and fellow Classmates!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post! The first few readings have been really eye opening and inspiring. I never realized just how deep the definition of feminism and sexism goes. It is also crazy to see just how intertwined these two terms are. What s really stuck with after finishing the reading was one of the lines towards the end of Chapter 1 of “Feminism is for Everybody.” Author Bell Hooks write’s “We can share the simple yet powerful message that feminism is a movement to end sex- ist oppression” (Hooks 6). The line was simple, direct, and powerful. It is how I will define feminism from now on. These readings made me think about a video I watched a few weeks back regarding a sushi restaurant in Tokyo that boasts a 100% female staff. Traditionally, sushi chefs have always been Men and it is shunned upon for women to become a sushi chef. Things are starting to change even in a predominantly matriarchal society such as Japan.
