The beginning of this movie talks about how it is being trans, the difficult times they go through. Being laughed at or called a freak or looked down on, it was even worse when they had to see how they were being expressed on tv. They were shown as a joke and as people who were mentally ill which is wrong. But now they are shown in many powerful roles.  The way trandgender characters are shown on tv can affect those who are going into transition. It is also nice when they see a race that looks like them and they have people to look up to. Back then crossdressing was illegal and you could be fined for doing that. We see men on tv dressing up as women to get jobs as comedians and also trying to deceive people to get things easy. It’s very offensive because this is a real problem for transgenders and it makes everything look like a joke. Media has made a way for people to react to transgenders, they make people react in fear. They make it seem that you should scream and be afraid and assume it is not normal. Transgenders are not serial killers, they won’t harm you. People don’t have good references when it comes to being trans, the first thing that comes to their mind is a killer who turns to a woman or something wrong. It’s the media’s fault for making a display like that and not thinking that people can make it seem very narrative. I would not want someone to see me and say oh I like that one character that steals or fights just because I might look like that. 

80% of people do not know actual trans people in their lives and they get everything from the media as mentioned earlier. For transgenders they have to learn to be who they are, they don’t usually have trans people around them either. There’s no guide book to say how you should be or grow. Trans people don’t also know other trans people so much. Trans people are very brave because they go through many emotions. Not everyone might accept you even though they should, not every parent or friend will be supportive. Coming out is a very big step for them, they are aware of the violence yet they still want to be themselves. Being who you are should not mean that you are a victim of assault, it’s terrible that this is the world today. I wish people would mind their business and not judge anyone and let them be. Let them express themselves. We are still fighting for equality when it comes to race and we still have to fight for equality involving the LGBTQ+. We are seeing more positivity in media involving Transgenders and it is very good, it gives hope to people who are looking up to them. It changes the conditions of life for trans people and makes others see that they are also just trying to live like the rest of us and not want any harm.

In the abortion divide documentary, it talks about how Pennsylvania was divided because of a law about abortion. We hear from four women, two who have their babies and the other two who do not. we can hear from both sides and listen to their story and why they made the decision. The first woman that spoke tells us that her other choices would be to keep the child or give up for adoption. She said that the child won’t have a good life because she knows she won’t be able to support them well. She already knows and is trying to prevent more from happening. People would still think that’s not a good reason and expect her to have the child. Every type of women gets abortions, young old different races, those who don’t expect to be there are there. It’s a hard choice buts it’s their decision and it’s their body and no one should try to make the decision for them. Most women are avoiding being single parents because they do not want to struggle, it’s a lot to process and think of. The women doing it are very strong, not just for going through it but because of what other people will do, they will judge them, they might feel guilty for a long time. There is so many reactions and feelings a person can go through, a lady who was going through it found out that she was having twins and stared to think differently. She thought of her son who has autism, and the condition is slowly leading to Asperger’s, the child does not like human interaction. During the procedure now, they get sedated and feel less comfortable but back then at the old hospital it was painful because they were not sedated.  The process is when they are injected, and they slow fall asleep and are numb to the pain during the surgery. There are women who change their minds and decide to keep the baby, this decision does not mean they are better than those who didn’t. They might have gotten a reason to keep, and they knew they would do the job. Women who go through with the abortion are very strong because they have to carry the feelings and guilt with them. Making decisions were never easy.  Other times women who find out they are pregnant unexpectedly can be happy, they also go through emotions from being shocked to being happy. Whatsoever women decide to do with their body is their choice no one should try to judge. 

            Hobby Lobby could also be America’s leading source of landmark, they say it conflicts with their Christian fate. Now people wonder if for-profit corporations can be religious too and if they do, they might choose to be Jewish. The founders of hobby lobby are Christians and they have been driven to pay full time employees 90% minimum wage. Their customers are said to be from Etsy and also students.

            In the reading on Power and Identity, it talks about it affects our plan on making this world better. Power means being able to make certain decisions with ease. It begins with how a blonde tries to ignore power and the writer goes on and says if many problems caused by white people where not done, we won’t be here and yes, I won’t even be writing this response right now. Identity politics happens and it is all around us, women are told that they belong at home doing chores and taking care of the children, Black people who were slaves and were able to find freedom and people who are still finding themselves but want to be accepted by others or society. It is very tough being in this world and not living in peace, your workplace might be hard, your home chaos, walking and not feeling safe. It’s a struggle, people are trying to find their places, yet people use their power for the wrong reasons. Having power does not mean you use It anyhow; you must think of others. Like the government, we voted for you because we trusted you but sometimes it becomes something else. Why run when you deceive the people who want help. People should stop being ignorant and see what happening, we humans should do better because we deserve more. So many things have been taking from us and we must fight back to let them know they can’t have power over us if they want to take advantage negatively.  

People are learning who they truly are because society has put humans in categories. They think you should listen to certain artist because you are black, they want you to say your race is this only because you look different. This world there are billions of people and us humans mix in with others, two white parents with a black child should not make you stare, you should not make the child feel uncomfortable. It should not be your business on how or why they have a black child. Imagine being in the shoes of these people you look at make uncomfortable, imagine being told that nobody wants to be friends with you because of your race. There are also situations when a person can be a certain race but not speak the language, people did not want the person in the group because they believed they do not fit in. It’s very sad that your skin has so much to do with who your friends with, the job you get, a lot of socializing these days. I really hope very soon and for the next generation you won’t see people of color and hesitate to be friends with them or hate them. I want things to change for the better. I should be happy about where I am from and not feel like I should not be proud, people should not make stupid comments about where I am from also.

Black women are not only targets because of their race but also because of their gender, they are being oppressed even more. Black women are treated different because of their skin color, they are looked sown upon because men think they don’t or can handle the job they do. They are sexually assaulted and taken advantage of just because they do not care about us as humans. How can you hate on another human being, there’s is nothing that makes you better than the other? The way I look should not affect me negatively, the way I talk should not allow people make fun of me, the way I dress should not make me a victim of sexual assault. I should be treated the way everyone I treated and not seen as the least preferred in any group. I am not a criminal because I am black, I am just going for a walk. I’m trying to get home safely to my family, I always have to worry that I could be harmed because of my color. Teach your children that human is all the same, they should not point at me or hide or stare at me, do not put the same hatred in their mind. It’s been years and I must make my voice heard so I can live peacefully and for the next generation to have it better. 

In the beginning of Paris is burning people talk about the ball and how it makes them feel like themselves, it’s a very welcoming community to be who you are. Outside is not the same because there are people who won’t accept them. It’s a spotlight that they enjoy for themselves, they feel like they are celebrities, and this are people who can’t afford much. People do the most for that on day, it shows their creativity and makes them feel excitement. Many of them just don’t want to win, they want to be happy and escaper from the real world. There are people that still want to harm you if you are Trans and they must be careful, it’s very scary not being accepted. In the film we see people who are telling us about the transition for them and how it feels to be free when they do not need to hide but sometimes you need to be careful because people still hate. People are trying to hustle in New York, they do what is very risky, but they have no choice. Some did not grow up with the best family, but they have good friends who won’t reject them. The owner of the ball took in some people from the streets and allowed them to perform. They go into this risky business together hoping for the best, not all of them will come out and say they were proud of what they did or even come out alive. The film touches topics on racism, poverty, LGBTQ+, gender and class. The film shows others what really happened then, unfortunately people are still judged for being who they are today.

Betty Friedan was a young activist and journalist, she cared for the people around her more than herself. She was also a housewife and a mother. She was who other women wanted to be and she had everything. 1959 during a gathering most women realized that they had an issue, they have been taking care of people around them and no one was doing much for them. They say bye to their husband’s then go on about doing their own thing, they realized how lonely they were. They could only think of themselves as just housewives and not really a wife, it was almost like a job they did not ask for or like at all. Books or anything written about women saw them as just mother and women who just do chores. Imagine getting married to the person you love, and they do not appreciate you or don’t even take the time to help. They were only thought to do certain tasks in their homes. Women were seen as fragile and lesser then men that was why the men where the ones who would go out and the women will be home all day. Today we are fighting for equality, letting everyone know that women do not belong at home, they also belong in offices, they can also study engineering. All those things are not gendered and should be for everyone to do and enjoy. 

The Feminine Mystique was published in 1963 by Betty Friedan, no matter how long it has been it has affected people and made others aware of the problem women had back then. it explains how feminist wanted to make themselves more fulfilled, trying to raise children. All they really wanted was to have careers and good education, it was not something they could easily speak about outside. Women were given a job they should not be doing alone and making them feel like the work men do is more important and that is why they do not need to help. There is no reason why it should be a problem for both men and women to do house, it seems fair. Media has shown women to be cleaning the house or cooking when the man is at work, it should not be like that. Young viewers will begin to grow up and think they can’t do chores or even believe that their sisters should be the only one to do so. There are also times when sisters do more because they are girls, parents call the girl and not her brother. That should stop because it becomes a problem from there. If a man tries to argue about doing the same amount of housework, he probably does not care at all and did not appreciate when the wife was doing it. It is difficult when you try to do go with the role that society has given women and when they refuse it becomes a problem. Society has made it a task for women to be home and men to be outside.
