The reading and writing of Poetry are quite existential to me. It is the trait of trying to engage people in the way you feel, think, experience. The way it is written in a language that is comprised of imagery, rhyme, sound. This is all comprised to capture the mine of the reader of these poems or sonnets. How to understand and try to figure out what the author of it is trying to say and to engage the individual. How to get the person to find interest and use their mind to imagine being there performing whatever the poem stated. Reading the activity 2 poem to draw you in to wanting to engage more so that you can feel it in your heart and mind. I personally since grade school having to do poems from memory turned me away because creating a noninterest in the art of this Love, deceit, humor was all taken away and hidden.

My research paper will be the focus on James Joyce’s work “Araby”. How this you man relates back to his wanting to be in love with his buddy’s sister. Then his realizing that his love for her will never be.
Here we are in this reading of the Greeks “Oedipus the King”. Here is a man that was sent away at birth to be killed but never was. He was the child of Jocasta and Laius’s. He was sent away because of one of these Greek prophets told his parents that he foreseen when he grew to be an adult, he would murder Laius’s and marry Jocasta. Well as faith has it the prophecy came true. Oedipus ends marrying Jocasta who is his mother. Over time the truth comes out and Oedipus is driven to feeling of human shame. Jocasta couldn’t live anymore like this, and she takes her own life. This story of incest not only hurts her but him also. As king how can he rule his kingdom. It seems that tragedy in his life ends up killing him years down the road. So, we look to learn if they didn’t have this prophecy would life still happened as it did.
We have sayings as if your courage will not exist if you have any fear in thee. You have this guy Oedipus that may be nuts or be in mitts of dementia in his time. By them saying this that he whatever he tries to do or accomplish he will fail. Sounds familiar to the leaders of our country today. Any way we then have another so called man Kronos that is so callous and afraid that he will be controlled by his children that he has them killed and eats them. Then all hail the so-called gods taking revenge on him and killing all. From reading this you then have this guy Oedipus that is somehow painted as a murderer, and he is somehow responsible for stopping a mystical thing of some kind with some so-called riddles. This reading wants you realize that is hatred and disalliance within the story creating drams.
Araby is the story of a young boy of the catholic faith. This young boy story takes place near Dublin, Ireland. He is starting to mature and feels he is in love with his friend’s older sister. He is infatuated with her and starts going to Araby market to buy her gifts to woo and entice her. This young man finds himself thinking this is true love and giving her gifts will have her fall in love with him. throughout this story he never mentions her name. The Araby market or bazar he goes to so he can buy her a gift is nothing like he dreamed it would be. The market was flat and nothing worth buying there for this girl. He becomes disappointed and reality sets in the place is nothing. There are so many aspects to this story, and they all come from the beginning of his obsession with her. His holding her to that of a holy light, being the most beautiful girl or woman, he ever seen. This story exposes his fantasy about how he realizes the are true life.
This story takes place in Harlem, I am going to compare to of the children being Sylvia and Mercedes. Sylvia seems to be the leader of the group. When she says to do something, they do. When the go to F.A.O, Schwarz toy store they are amazed by everything in the window. As the look at the window MS Moore pushes them to enter the store, Sylvia and Sugar just stand at the door as if they couldn’t move or enter the store. It is like Sylvia is out of her comfort zone and didn’t know how to react. They are pushed aside by the other children to get in. Once inside Sylvia is just looking and seeing the prices on how people would spend money on this stuff and acted like nothing. Mercedes on the other hand acted refine and spoke pleasant and was saying how she had things the others didn’t. Slyvia had a disdain for Ms. Moore and couldn’t wait to leave whereas Mercedes was enjoying being there.
Langston Hughes story of “Salvation” takes place during his early childhood. This story starts when he is teenager, and he is questioning his belief in religion. He portrays to his aunt that he is faithful and believer and desiring to be saved. His aunt is a believer in these revivals held by the church. He decides to attend the revival at Reed’s church by listening and taking part in all sermons and listening to the preachers taking part in the revivals. When he arrives there, he takes his place on the bench with all the other kids his age. As he is sitting there, he sees all the other’s testifying that the been saved. After feeling all the pressure from his aunt and the church members he stood up and declared I Have Found Jesus! He knows he lied to his aunt and church members, but he could not handle it anymore. In the end by forcing him to do this he fell farther away from religion and becoming an atheist.
The story of The Handsome Drowned Man In the World I say was dictated as first reading to help us to do an in depth thinking on the parable of this story. To make us use our imagination to see how this story was devised and set in place and the plot of it. This story with its three parts tests the imagination of the women on who, and how this stranger died, where he came from than also on his stature. The men just wanted him thrown back in the sea forever. The village was so dull till his body appeared be gray and gloomy. The women came up with a name for Estaban as the called him. After he was sent back to the sea the town started to rebuild their homes, plant flowers throughout the village.
With the assigning of this fictional story we are pushed to realize how our thinking can be created to understand the indebt imagination of ones thinking. Here we have a story of a stranger that washed ashore on an island and was placated beyond imagination to the people. The women naming him Estaban gave them a sense of knowing him. This man was a large man that the never seen likes of before. This story flows from mini plot to mini plot up until the time the final throw him back to the sea off the cliffs.
