By reading all these poems, my opinion of poetry has not changed.I think that the poems have all dramatism and romanticism. There are many different kinds of poems, some may be good, some bad, some that rhyme, some that don’t.I have also learned that poems have repeated lines and this is to draw more attention from the reader and is a collection of spoken or written words that expresses ideas or emotions and imaginative style.

“Araby” is a short story written by James Joyce. This short story is about a young boy in Ireland obsessed with the girl living across the street. When the young girl mentions how badly she wants to attend a certain bazaar, he sees an opportunity to win her heart by attending the bazaar himself and bringing her back a gift. The story opens with the narrator’s description of his home and neighborhood, in which we first see Joyce’s use of the close first-person narrator to convey the full sensory range of sensory detail – sights, smells, colors, textures – that comprise the setting. The author is James Joyce was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, and literary critic. He contributed to the modernist avant garde movement and is regarded as one of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century. I have searched for options in the BMCC databases and I still haven’t been able to find one that matches my story that I choose.
¨The story of an hour¨ The short story describes the series of emotions Louis Mallard endures after hearing of the death of her husband, who was believed to have died in a railroad disaster. Mrs. Mallard suffers from heart problems and therefore her sister attempts to inform her of the horrific news in a gentle way. Mrs. Mallard locks herself in her room to immediately mourn the loss of her husband. However, she begins to feel an unexpected sense of exhilaration. “Free ! Body and soul free !” is what she believes is a benefit of his death. This is an early feminist work that questions the attitudes about what women should be and how they should act. The protagonist challenges the belief in patriarchal society that women are nothing without a husband as she begins to embrace a future alone to determine her own direction and life.
It’s time for a family trip of some kind, and there’s a disagreement in the family about where to go. Bailey wants to take his family, (i.e., his wife, baby, and two kids, John Wesley and June Star), to Florida. His mother, called simply “the grandmother,” doesn’t want to go there. The Grandmother shows her nostalgia for what she sees as a simpler and better time. Her reflection—that she should have married the man who died rich off Coca-Cola stock—makes it clear that worldly concerns are more important to her than spiritual ones (or even ideas of romantic love). The Grandmother once again shows the racism inherent in her worldview and longing for the “Old South,” as she portrays the black “boy” in the story as just a simple and comic figure. The story ends with him telling his cronies, who’ve returned from shooting the others, to dump her body with the rest. “She would’ve been a good woman if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life,” he says.
It defines history as the narrative of a particular event occurring at a particular time for a particular person or group while literature is the narrative of what is common in human experience. He believes in power, and when his father died, he went alone to seek justice with King Lai and his people, and for personal reasons. He announced the death of the man who killed King Lai. He realizes that he is the one he is looking for, and his fate is sealed.Oedipus found out that was found to kill his father and marry his mother which blinded him and made him feel a type of way.
Antistrophe First I call on you, Athene, deathless daughter of Zeus, and Artemis, Earth Upholder, 190 who sits in the midst of the market place in the throne which men call Fame, and Phoebus, the Far Shooter, three averters of Fate, come to us now, if ever before, when ruin rushed upon the state, you drove destruction’s flame away out of our land. The scene sounds as if Oedipus is dead and has found relief in his death. The ability of the chorus to make people feel the emotions of the characters and create a magnificent and large-scale effect of tragedy is deeply noticeable from the first to the last line of the work. He’s purpose is to create an atmosphere of tension and emphasize the effects of tragedy so that the reader can understand the essence of the play. Oedipus is known for his compassion, sense of justice, quick thinking and acting, and honesty.
James Joyce’s Araby seems almost simplistic, with the story of a boy falling in love with a girl living across the street being the main plot. Describing the main character’s journey from hope to disappointment, “Araby” seems to convey the meaning of a coming of age story, namely, the process of growing up and learning to accept bitter disappointment. As a result, at the end of the novel, the fleeting sense of excitement that captures the eliding character is replaced with the experience of loss and the ultimate learning that comes with its acknowledgment. Therefore, the process of growing up and accepting disappointment lies at the core of the story.
In the short story “salvation” he is talking in the first-person point view. He wants to show how a huge event in his childhood has changed his life. He lied to the church, to Jesus, and to his aunt this created a feeling of guilt. He thought about being saved, but it ended up back finding him, guilt and fear started to take over him, he felt bad about what he did. He changed and showed us how the pressure an adult can have on a child can cause so much damage to the one who is not aware of what is exactly going on. This affected him because he realized what he had done, and it resulted in his belief that Jesus does not exist because he didn’t help him. HUges salvation was not what he was expecting to be as an adult he realizes that it is all up to the person and how they interpret the notion of salvation.
