In the short story “salvation” he is talking in the first-person point view. He wants to show how a huge event in his childhood has changed his life. He lied to the church, to Jesus, and to his aunt this created a feeling of guilt. He thought about being saved, but it ended up back finding him, guilt and fear started to take over him, he felt bad about what he did. He changed and showed us how the pressure an adult can have on a child can cause so much damage to the one who is not aware of what is exactly going on. This affected him because he realized what he had done, and it resulted in his belief that Jesus does not exist because he didn’t help him. HUges salvation was not what he was expecting to be as an adult he realizes that it is all up to the person and how they interpret the notion of salvation.

I completely agree with you.
I’ve petty Langston so much, because as a young boy he didn’t understand the subjectivity of finding his own faith, and have let himself be guided by how other people described the experience of finding, or being saved by Jesus. When the truth is that, for those whom are religious, faith can be manifested in many –many– ways, and it’s much more an individualistic feeling than a collective perspective. I feel bad because he seemed so excited on the first paragraphs, and we can see his faith and excitement fading as he experiences everyone being saved but him.
Great points!
Nurelys: reading your discussion you connect wright on point to all that is going on with this young boy. Explicitly how this revival his aunt took him to change his life. Being forced to be there he lied about seeing Jesus. He lied to the whole church and his aunt just so he could up and leave. In the end the forced push of religion on him not only moved him away from the church but also pushed him to become a nonbeliever. As you look at our society today, we have so many that don’t attend or believe in attending church anymore.
