Oedipus the King has a lot of timeless human experiences. One of most, being the tragedy between family because of secrets. Another timeless experience would be the copulation of mother and son which to this day their names are remembered, Jocasta and Oedipus, as the Jocasta and Oedipus complexes. The Jocasta experience being the incestuous sexual desire of a mother towards her son and Oedipus complex being the opposite of where son has an unconscious sexual desire for the mother. Another timeless experience would be, the blatant fear and paranoia of people and what they are willing to do in order to not feel that anymore, as in Laius trying to kill Oedipus. As fate would have it, Oedipus ended up fulfilling the destiny that was prophesized in the end. Oedipus would have probably ended up fulfilling his fate either way even if Laius didn’t do what he did or didn’t hear the prophecy because of fate which in itself is a timeless human experience. Fate ends up happening even if you try to control the outcome as is with Oedipus and killing his father and all that led up to it including Jocasta’s death and Oedipus blinding himself left to wander.

I agree with this situation since it is something that we could think that could never happen today. This topic becomes repugnant since no one expects that a relationship between people of the same family will come to be. At present this practice is not as common as it was a few hundred and thousands of years ago, since the human being has been able to discover the consequences in various points of view of this practice, especially genetics. Unfortunately, even in certain communities, this practice is common, especially in rural areas.
Hi Angela! I agree with your response. Both Oedipus and Jocasta were paranoid and had the same kind of outcome when they found out the truth. Oedipus the King had blinded himself when finding out what he did because of how ashamed he was of his actions. Jocasta committed suicide when finding out the truth about the murderer being Oedipus.
Angela: your dissertation of this fable or poem is very amazing. Just think if we lived this experience today. I am lost for words but your dissertation of the facts in this story is right on the spot. Experiences, murdering his father, marrying his mother, incest and mother killing herself and him finally dying.
Hello Angela. I concur with your viewpoint. Both Oedipus and Jocasta were paranoid, and when they discovered the truth, they experienced the same end. I’d want to add that people constantly strive to have some control over their life, and Oedipus’ narrative is a demonstration of how out of control it can get, and how fate happens no matter how hard you try to change it, which is a timeless experience that I feel most have tried to pull off.
