A timeless human experiences or behaviors i found in Oedipus the king was that he’s truthful to his words. In the reading there was a scene was Oedipus got accused of murder and instead of assisting, he confirm and admitted that he did it Oedipus doesn’t try to save himself by hiding the truth. He acts like a great loyal king to people of thebes because he sacrifices himself for a higher cause of his people’s wellbeing. As king he seeks to protect his people and do whats best for them. He doesn’t even let his flaws stop him. In the people’s eyes they are still going to see Oedipus as a great hero, king to there town. But i will say its a bit odd to me that when Oedipus did the murdering he didn’t confess than but when the news is out he than wants to confess and take stands to what he did.

Hi Marleny, I agree that Oedipus’ behavior reflects Aristotle’s claim that poetry is of higher form than history. Oedipus is unwilling to take responsibility for his actions, even though he admits to the murder. He justifies his actions by stating they were in the best interests of the sovereign. He portrays himself as a loyal king willing to sacrifice himself for the good of his people. It is a timeless human behavior of kings in the past where they always wanted to be seen as heroes
