Timeless human experiences and behaviors that I find in Oedipus the king is the need to know everything. Oedipus throughout the story has a need to know the things that the people are trying to hide him from. As king Oedipus wanted to avoid what was fated from him from the gods and he wanted to save his people. In doing so he sends people to find out what is happening and to save those from the epidemic that was happening. People who are holding information, are threatened to tell the truth. While Jacosta tries real hard to stop him from finding out more and keep the things under her control while also denying the truth of her suspicions. Although Oedipus is not told directly he is able to deduce from the things that happened to him before he became king and the events of the previous king were matching. The need to know what the others were hiding was what ultimately ruined everything that Oedipus had gained as king and going to the new land and as well as what he had in the past.

Hi Diana,
Thanks for sharing. Do you think that Jocasta was being ”evil” because even though she knew a lot about Oedipus’s past. She insisted that he should not look deeper into the matter. Do you think she was merely doing her best to avoid such a traumatic realization from oedipus?
