Diana Xochitecatl Discussion 1

The story “Araby” by James Joyce is not a love story because of the context that the author uses to describe the story is not one that one would use to describe a love story. He introduces the girl as a one of the children’s sister they would observe her movements and actions for example if she waited for her brother at the door to come in the house he would show himself to her at the front steps. If she left they would just remain in the shadows watching her figure. He would also do foolish things around her and look for her, trying to grab her attention in any type of way like when he would see her go out he would follow her out and walk behind her until they split ways he would speed walk past her. In this view the girl was the thing he looked forward to see in his life, what makes it unusual was the way her name and image came to him whenever something was going on, it was associated with everything he heard and saw. Araby is really about the way he sees the girl and his life until the young boy come to the reality of how life is when he goes to Araby in which they look at him with criticizing eyes something he did not see before.
