What is ‘Araby’ By James Joyce about? When you first read it you think oh its a poor boy having feeling for this girl he probably never even met. But as you keep reading the story you do realize that he has a little crush on the girl. In the text it says ” When she came out on the doorstep my heart leaped. I ran to the hall, seized my books and followed her”. This shows that he has feeling for the girl and the feeling he has for her are very deep. He forget things he says to her, you can say he get nervous around her. In the text it say that she asked him about araby and he forgot what he said to her. As she was talking he was I would say admiring her looks because as she talking to him he is paying attention to every details of her.

Marleny, it’s great to hear from you. It’s true that the story is about a boy who becomes infatuated with a girl, but I hope you can dig a little deeper than this. It is not a love story. What really happens to the boy in this story? What does the girl represent to him?
