For this discussion board I chose lines 771-775, “May the sun God king of Gods, forbid! may I die without God’s blessing, without friends” help. If I had any such thought. But my spirit is broken by my unhappiness for my wasting country: and this would but add troubles amongst ourselves to the other troubles. ( Sophocles 771-775). By this scenario of the story, the chorus has given indirect advice to oedipius. Oedipus was trying to get Creon dead for he was thinking Creo was responsible for preparing a plot against him. Oedipus was accusing him of treason. In this section of the passage I chose, the Chorus was trying to talk to Oedipus for the sake of Creon by saying ” Be gracious”, be merciful, we beg you.. he has been so silly child In the past. He is strong in his oath now. Spare him.. he has been your friend before all means eyes; do not cast him away dishonoured on an obscure conjecture. ”The chorus goes directly and talks to Oedipus directly to make him realise the terrible mistake he was about to commit. The chorus also does this for oedipus since this will add more troubles on top of the current issues and rumours going on in the country. It represents the deep understanding the chorus has about the challenges Oedipus is facing and that there are things to consider before taking such an action of killing someone while In wrath.

Hi Milka,
This is a great observation. In my post, I wrote about a line from the chorus from when Creon first enters the scene and is shaken up by the accusation the king has put on him. Within that scene, the Chorus is hesitant to take a side in this disagreement as they don’t want to upset Oepdius or Creon. It’s interesting to read your post and see how the Chorus has changed their tune. They’re now on Creon’s side and are trying to reason with the king on Crreon’s behalf.
Hi Milka! I agree with your analysis of one of the ode’s of the Chorus in Oedipus the King. It was very insightful and accurate, and I agree that the chorus frequently made their voices known to try to sway the characters from making rash decisions.
