The line I chose was from Teiresias lines 360-361
“Yes, but I see that even your own words.
miss the mark; therefore, I must fear for mine.”
As a prophet with visions of the future, Teiresias believes that fate is predetermined, telling Oedipus that “it will come what will.” Teiresias first refuses to notify Oedipus because he recognizes that disclosing his knowledge will have little effect. Oedipus is enraged by Teiresias’ refusal to uncover the identity of Laius’ murderer. I believe that Teiresias think that Oedipus is the murder hence his silence. Because of his silence, it seems like Oedipus wants him so to say something that shouldn’t be said. That is why he fears his following words. He might say something that they don’t like and doom himself. Tiresias, despite his blindness, is the wisest of all the characters. He recognizes that the truth can be too terrible to handle at times.
