Hello everyone,
In “Salvation”, the main character open mindedly is attending a church’s function where sinners, meaning young children, witness Jesus Christ and become saved. Being a young boy, he had believed everything the wise adults in his life had told him about God, Jesus, and religion. Hence, he attended the function without a worry. Unfortunately, when the time came for him to be saved by Jesus, he did not physically and literally witness and experience what the adults had been telling him all his life. He expected Jesus to be revealed to him but instead he saw and felt nothing. This added more pressure on him as the church was filled with mourners, ready to witness each and every child welcome Jesus in their hearts and souls. Out of social obligation, he decided to fake the experience and pretend as if he had witnessed and been saved by Jesus. He ended up fooling the church goers along with his family. Later that night, he is caught crying by his aunt, where he reveals that those tears are tears of guilt for lying to everyone. In the end, the character has an epiphany moment where he has lost complete touch with God and has potentially become and atheist.
