During Essay 1 , I learned many valuable lessons I am not afraid to be honest and say sometimes as college students life can get the best of us which can dictate how efficiently we perform in class . During the writing of essay 1 I did not follow any directions which led me to get a failing grade luckily our professor has allowed us to revise . Following directions all the way through and make sure you are reading to understand not just to read. I learned to take my time and never go without taking notes of the stories we read in class . When we read articles given by the teacher its important to fully understand the message of what the author is trying to convey even if we are reading a student written essay we must fully grasp what the author is saying to us . I also realized how easy it is to fail by not sticking to the prompt given to us . Its important not to steer off the directions . I also have problems with writing the works cited pages so I would like to focus more on my essay organization skills . Another issue I have is when I write the words can become a little conversational and I need to work on articulating my thoughts onto paper .

Hi Aryanna,
I also admire how you were honest about the process of going through completing Essay 1. Very good self-awareness and identification of areas that we can work on and thankful you had a do-over to remake it. To me, attention to detail in being thorough about following up on hearing instructions and understanding that we read conscientiously are what move us forward towards success. Reading and noting is a fine habit, and I like text-analysis too. I also struggle with works cited pages, so I can understand how frustrating they can be. Citation templates or programs would be helpful in keeping up. On the writing not being too conversational, I think you have to find a balance, you do want your voice to shine through, but polishing it so that it is less conversational and more formal will make your essays shine. Don’t be discouraged, and I am certain your edited work will be great!
Aryanna, I agree with your colleague Zoe that your honesty here is admirable. Sometimes it seems time-consuming to read directions, but it’s even more time-consuming to have to write two different essays. And yes, as you mention, you have to understand the secondary source (Rader article) or you won’t be able to discuss the student’s understanding of the article. The student set up a false thesis, and almost no one in the class noticed it.
I completely understand what you went through with Essay 1.I believe it’s wonderful that you understood how crucial it is to pay close attention to instructions, particularly in order to completely comprehend the readings. It is easy to scan through documents without fully comprehending their significance, but taking the time to absorb the message greatly improves the quality of your work.Keep practicing, and don’t be too hard on yourself; it’s all part of the learning process and the daily life of a college student.
