The prewriting assignment in Week 1 Activity 10 is about preparing to write your first essay. You need to read and evaluate a sample student literary essay, but you don’t have to write anything yet. The steps include reading “The Most Handsome Drowned Man” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, reading an overview of the story by Dean Rader, reviewing guides on thesis statements, inserting quotations, essay format, and MLA citation. After that, I will read the directions for the sample student essay and the essay itself. The purpose of this prewriting assignment is to help me understand how to analyze a literary essay, learn how to structure my essay, and get familiar with important writing skills like making a thesis, using quotes, and following MLA format. This will help me build a strong foundation before I start writing my essay in the coming weeks.

Mohammed, you’ve got it all! It’s great that you mention that this is not a writing assignment. It is just a reading assignment in preparation for an essay.
Great summary Mohammed! Reading the sample essay will help us see how to structure our own essay. I find MLA formatting a bit tricky, im so glad we get to review it first
Kadiatou, please be aware of length requirements for comments to others. See “Information about Discussion Boards” in COURSE INFORMATION
Hello Mohammed,
You captured week 1 and the activity 10 very accurately. I Printed out the MLA formatting and the “The Most Handsome Drowned Man” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, as I find this helpful fo when it is time for me to write my first essay using MLA ans inserting quotes. I am behind on this at the moment. I also printed the sample student essay, I remeber going over that in our zoom class. I do feel like now that I am understanding how to use the openlab with brightspace that I will make progress. I think the week 1 instructions were very informative and once I located them I feel confident in my ability to write my essay correctly, but late. Thank you for sharing.
