Hello professor, I can say that I feel that the work that was most successful was the in class readings and also the in class discussions that were taking place. By all of us reading the works together, it made it easier to understand the INTENDED meaning. The discussions also helped with this. I found that discussing the readings in class made the lessons more remember-able. What I feel like I could have done better was within my essays. I find that free hand writing is more my specialty then writing an essay that has to address specific things in an order. I find that by free hand writing my stories they have a seamless flow making my writings more accessible and understandable. Unfortunately my writings had to suffer from this however, it does not take away from my understanding of literature and the importance of those points that need to be addressed while writing any story or essay In order for it to meet the proper criteria. Specific skills that I have learned that will apply to my everyday world is the ability to find the meaning of everything by analyzing detail and exploring different perspectives. Not everything is as it seems and what ive also learned is that beauty comes in so many different ways; in objects and matters you could’ve never imagined and so much more. You just have to look deeper. I thank you so much for this wonderful, remember-able class and lessons that I will forever cherish and utilize for the rest of my life. <3

Hello, One specific personal experience that has echoed in “The House on Mango Street” for me is “Hairs”. I believe this resonates with me because I come from a family of Puerto Ricans. One of the many things I love about us is that we come in all different colors and textures. From pin straight to kinky to curly to wavy, you name it… my family has it. A big bonus with this for me is that I get to learn how to do a bunch of different hair types with different designs. doing hair has always been a passion of mine. I was born with curly blonde hair as was my mother and now my daughter has the exact same hair color. My son was born with darker hair that has curls so tight your brush gets lost in it! In our family we embrace all these different types of beautiful hair types.
I would say the author Raymond Carver’s writing style exercises simplicity while also targeting the key points of literature. Some of these key points I am referring to is the attention to detail to make the reader imagine what is being talked about but he does it in a way that you can understand it. ” October. Here in this dank, unfamiliar kitchen I study my father’s embarrassed young man’s face. Sheepish grin, he holds in one hand a string of spiny yellow perch, in the other a bottle of Carlsbad Beer” (Carver). Most of the time when I’m am reading a story, i would have to read it once or twice in order for me to understand what the context of the story is or to help myself grasp the emotional scene. With the writing of Raymond Carver, I find myself only having to read his work once. This reminds me of the story “The Handsomest Drowned Man” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Marquez used detail that was easy to understand but also gave you enough to receive the emotion of every character in this story. Marquez’s explanation of expression on the women’s faces when they found the drowned man let us know how they were all feeling when they saw him. The body language of the husbands told us of the annoyance they had with their wives being so infatuated with this dead man, as the husbands referred to him as.
In the Story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”, the terror that the readers feel is so much more intense and more interesting then when watching a terrifying movie, in my opinion. When an author is writing a story with the objective of the story being to scare or intimidate the audience, He or she can do it in many ways and be done in the story. One of these ways is that he or she can use explicit detail with imagery. They can also do this with the scenery. With the scary story, you wont miss a beat. every detail that the author wants you to notice , will be clear for you to see and feel. On the other hand, win regards to the movies, some times you have to watch the movie a couple times to understand it or even did yourself seeing different things in the movie that you did not the first time. Don’t get me wrong, this is sometimes fun to do when you see a video on a video or something and you go back to analyze the movie but with a book you get it all in one shot. also with a book you can kind of place yourself there because you are creating the scenery in your imagination as the author gives you the layout.
Hello professor. So after doing some research online for my essay, I did find quite a few articles that interest me. I want to base my essay off of the irony that occurs in these fairy tales in regards to the alternative motive behind the scenes. For instance the snow white story was a really good one but also fairy tales that have mislead us or given us a false impression on what life is to be. A story that really stuck out to me was Cinderella. Just imagine how imprisoned she felt, from her perspective if it were real life, and to how we perceived that as a young children. Our minds were so innocent we did not know other wise, so these events were often over looked.. however, this could have unconsciously molded and or shaped our minds into the way we think or it could even give some type of validation of why we think the way we do. Many psychologists did say that out adulthood is based a lot of our childhood and experiences.
Hello professor. After this week’s readings, my attitude towards fairy tales has dramatically changed. Thanks my childhood is ruined . lol. After reading ” the Little Snow White” by Brothers Grimm, it completely changed my perception of the whole story and of any other childhood stories that I have previously read.. I don’t generally like to alter my way of thinking or my reality when it comes to things like this because that it what starts trust issues. Now, whenever I read something I am going to question the fact if there is an alternative motive behind the whole thing. In the story “The Little Snow White”, the queen was mean and vulgar, I can not imagine how this is ever and still is a children’s fairy tale book. What really stood apart from the story to me is the queen requesting a bodily organ of Snow White, but it doesn’t stop there. Her intention to engage in cannibalism was the icing on the cake for me .
Hello professor. Honestly I do feel like I would have missed few things in the story . One of those things are that if I did not read the article before reading the story; While in class, after we finished reading the article, I was left with feeling kind of “left off”. Unfortunately I did not understand where the story went and found myself wanting to read more. When reading the article, the description of the grandmother and of the misfits portrayed them out to be somewhat of these characters that left a bad taste in your mouth, at least in regards to the grandmother the image of her personality is distorted. After reading the actual story, the grandmother is not as bad as she is made out to be, In the end of the story the grandmother shows that she does care for her family and is not the selfish witch that the readers thought she was.
Hello professor, So at first when we started reading “Oedipus The King”, I would rate my ability to read and understand what I am reading in between a seven and an eight. I say this because yes I was reading the words with no problem however, I had to read the text a few times to really understand what was going on. I feel like I had to read it over again because of the terminology that the play is spoken in. Keep in mind this play takes place a very long time ago. We are talking 420-430 b.c . After reaching to about the middle of the story continuing to the end, it became more familiar to me therefore it was much more easy to understand. I noticed that one way for me to be able to grasp a concept or terminology, I obtain and store the information better through repetition.
Personally I feel like I can rate my ability to be able to read poetry to maybe like an eight on a scale from one to ten. I have always loved poetry ever since I was little. I am a music lover as well and song writer so poetry plays and has always played a big part in my life. When reading poetry you have to know the flow of the poem, and to know the flow , you have to feel the rhythm of the words. This is how I often read poetry. This is how poetry catches my attention. In the poem ” My Mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun” by William Shakespeare you will find that this flow that I am referring to. One thing that I know I need to improve on is not all poetry rhymes and has a “flow” so when this happens, I tend to have trouble understanding the poem. Especially if the language is not from the present day.
Hello professor, The quote that I have chosen for my essay is embodied in my story because it is what the theme of my story is based on .Literature gives you the ability to express literally anything you want in a way that uses words to display emotion and imagery by causing stimulation of the brain. I feel like the best way for one to embody any quite into writing is first, it is always better to go with a quote that you really can relate to so then you can have more to speak on. When I right about subjects that I am passionate about, the writing comes easy. After a while it just becomes natural flow. Sometimes I have even have had to stop myself from writing to much on certain assignments. This can be both a good quality to have and not so good as well. Mostly just for assignments is where I have trouble with this but for A writer of literature this can be a really good qualification to have.
Hello professor. First, I would like to say what is ineffective about this sentence is that it does not go into enough detail. We have no idea what the writer of the sentence is talking about other than theirs a nameless narrator and we are to analyze their character in a condition we know nothing of. The statement is way too broad. In order for your readers to understand the perspective in which he or she wants to direct the readers, especially in your thesis statement, it is very import to express and briefly describe the relevant dynamics of the story. If this sentence had to be re-written by myself. First I would analyze the original statement that was made and get more into detail by breaking each part down into individual parts. For example, In the beginning of the sentence the writer starts off by telling us about the author’s intentions that he has for his readers of his book “Araby”. After introducing the author I would have gone into some greater detail of where he was born and his age as I would with he rest of the sentence. There was a lot of information that could have been included here.
Hello professor, So if I had to write a story that is less about socio-economic issues I would title it “Nothing on me” and it would reflect on the being proud of where you come from and who you can be aspect of the story. I would choose this title and theme because in the way the narrator tells the story, it is spoken from a very proud and strong minded stand point that I admire. I am sure many people can relate to this so that is another good reason why I would choose this topic. I find it draws your audience in more if you make your story relatable. I would keep the urban vibe to my story as well. I’d like to keep this dialect because it adds texture and realism to the text; so you can understand the characters and the setting. The whole point for me choosing to write about this specific topic is because it has so many interesting and important details you can include which will make for an informative story.
Hello professor. I have always considered myself to be a hopeless romantic. I can see my self personally relating to the young narrator in “Araby” as opposed to the young narrator in Salvation. My reasoning for this is because of two reasons. One is because my mother always made it very clear to me that god is not someone you can psychically see or touch . She explained to me that it has to do with faith and that the presence of god comes from within the soul. The boy in this text however took his aunts words literally, therefore breaking his trust and faith. I can not relate to this simply because I have never gone through this experience. I can relate more to the “Araby” story because although I didn’t stalk anyone like he did or have never went to the lengths he did to pursue the thought of being with this woman, but I understand the feeling of wanting/craving someone the way he craved for her. That feeling can be bliss , if the crave is reciprocated. But If it is not . . . your story will most likely end up like his.

Hello professor! This was a great story and also A quite interesting one. I think what is important while answering your question is knowing that you really have to be able to comprehend the moral of the story after all is said. You have to put yourself , so to speak, in the shoes of the author and ask yourself, what is it that Gabriel Garcia Marquez is trying to tell me? What do I feel when reading this? What I have received from the overall message of the story was live your life with no restraints; to appreciate your life while you are blessed enough to have it. In other words value what is important. I feel like you assigned this as the first post because you want us to start and continue moving forward into this semester with an open mind to have that mentality of having a positive mindset of valuation of life .
