My work this semester what I really felt I did successful was communicating to my professor via email when I needed information on something . I also felt like I’ve interacted with people a little bit .I also did good on Essay 3 . What I could’ve really done better is making it to class more no matter the situation .Something I feel like I could’ve done better was writing essay 1 2 and 4 . I could’ve went to the writing center to get some help with my pieces or I could’ve asked someone I know that’s good at writing essays to peer edit and proof read my essays before I turned it in just to make sure everything was right . Also I should’ve did better with probably making the deadline with it . One last thing I could’ve done was getting deeper into my responses with the discussion boards instead of being so vague at times.

A personal experience of mine that relates to the vignette “My Name” is usually throughout my whole life people would say like you don’t look like a Caitlin or you have a caucasian name . That all leads back to you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover . Just because I’m African American doesn’t mean my name should be crazy . Also people usually always get the spelling of my name wrong . It’s spelled “Caitlin” people usually spell it Caitlyn , Kaitlyn , Kaitlin because they are used to seeing the name start with the letter K. But to me I’m actually fine with my name it comes from an Irish origin & it means pure . Another reason why I love my name is because my grandmother who I love so much named me & she also named my twin brother whose name is Cyle . So when people in school use to make fun of my name it never really phased me I just went about my day holding my head high in strong confidence.
The terror of reading “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” are very different from the terror of watching a terrifying movie because when you’re ready a terrifying story all you really do is get goosebumps for real . When you’re watching a scary movie on the screen it is meant to make you jump at the screen spill your popcorn type of thing . You get scared & cover your eyes when watching a movie . Another thing is when you watch a scary movie depending on how scary it is it causes you to have sleepless nights that doesn’t happen when your reading a scary story . Being that a story can drag on for days you want have time to get scared the movie gets straight to the point so that you have enough time to actually get scared . Also when you tend to read scary books you tend to want to read more into the book when your watching a scary movie you stop to turn it off because it’s a horror that you can’t handle as much as you would if you were just reading a book .
The fairytales that I’m really thinking of using are Hansel & Gretal because of the message that it gives off to be honest Another fairytale that I was planning on using is Little Red Riding Hood . I plan on using Hansel and Gretal as my primary source and little red riding hood as my secondary source . I’m using these two stories to show you hate things don’t always end up with the same outcome . Some things are meant to happen differently. While I was on the BMCC database I couldn’t find anything that really caught my eye . Which made it easier for me to choose these two fairytales because as a kid I would watch movies on them and read them a lot . But now that I’m an adult I could really go back and read and understand both with a different perspective and kind of break down the story more & get into deeper thought with them .
After reading Snow White and many fairytales my perspective of fairytales did change . I say this because when I was young I didn’t really know any better I thought fairytales were really supposed to be about getting the life you always wanted to live or being happy or getting the husband that you always wanted . After reading Snow White again I realize that it just shows you how people become jealous & envy you because of who you are . Snow shots never asked to be prettier than her stepmother that’s just how she came out and what her mother prayed for basically . The evil stepmother just said wanted to be what she couldn’t be and she need up killing off Snow White so that she can feel like she had all the power and beauty . She may have wanted to have beauty but she will never have that because she wasn’t a great person which made her ugly in the inside and the outside .
In the article I feel as if it’s really just about the grandmother and how much of a narcissist she is . She’s too self absorbed and doesn’t really care about anyone else’s feelings. Also the grandmother is also a racist ignorant person. It’s as if the parents have no responsibility even though they have kids . It’s really like they’re not raising their kids. It’s also like Bailey the husband doesn’t have any responsibility as the man . Kind of like he failed his children & wife because he does nothing to save them when the Misfit takes the family . Also they don’t discipline their children . They let them do whatever they want and act however they are without repercussions or reprimanding them . Also I read this when I was in middle school so it’s actually a refreshing experience to re read it again . But I still felt the same way about reading it when i read it in middle school .
Reading & understanding opedius the king I would probably rate myself like a 6.5/10 because it does have a lot of complex vocabulary & elements . Also because they’re a couple mistakes made with the dialogue. Another thing is I had to read it multiple times to actually understand what was going on which made it a bit challenging. But the character that I would’ve like to been was Jocasta because it seems like Jocasta really tried to be the problem solver to everything & that’s how my personality is in real life , I don’t really like to see people go through problems without finding a solution so I try to help them mostly or I really try to be there to comfort them no matter what the problem is . Overall I really like getting to understand the reading & I will try to do it more often as possible because during this course poetry had really opened up my eyes in many ways .
During the two weeks of learning poetry I think I’ve been getting a little better at understanding . Being that I’ve always liked to write everytime I want to express myself it makes it easier to sometimes understand a poem that had a lot of feeling to it . During these two weeks I believe I can still work on breaking poems down and understanding the literature terms that are being used in the poems .
In the story Oedipus the King, the people in the story went through a plague and tried to find a solution . Like in lines 68-82 “I pity you, children. You have come full of longing, but I have known the story before you told it only too well. I know you are all sick, yet there is not one of you, sick though you are, that is as sick as myself. Your several sorrows each have single scope and touch but one of you. My spirit groans for city and myself and you at once. You have not roused me like a man from sleep; know that I have given many tears to this, gone many ways wandering in thoughts, but as I thought I found only one remedy and that I took. I sent Menoeceus’ son Creon, Jocasta’s brother, to Apollo, to his Pythian temple,* that he might learn there by what act or word I could save this city. This quote relates to Covid 19 and what was going on with the Americans because when Covid 19 started they quickly started looking for a solution to solve the problem for the sickness/disease that were killing people off . It caused great panic and that’s why guidelines had to be followed to prevent the spread .
The quote that I’ve decided to choose was Literature is painting, architecture, and music by Yevgeny Zamyatin. This quote can relate to the story , “The Necklace” because the necklace is painting a life that is not always as it seems . It’s painting a picture as if life is always perfect . But with life you’ll always have to go through trials and tribulations.
The sentence presented is ineffective because it la ls specifics . It doesn’t really grabs the readers attention and doesn’t really explain the topic of what was given . I would probably rewrite the sentence like this “Dive into the captivating world of James Joyce’s ‘Araby,’ where the nameless narrator’s profound complexities mirror the intricate layers of the human experience, beckoning readers to explore the depths of the soul.”
Reading Salvation by Langston Hughes personally I can relate because in the story he basically lied . And when I was kid sometimes I use to tell fibs and feel bad about it . Also another thing I felt was when he basically felt left out so he felt the need to lie . Stated in the story , “. I began to be ashamed of myself, holding everything up so long. I began to wonder what God thought about Westley, who certainly hadn’t seen Jesus either, but who was now sitting proudly on the platform, swinging his knickerbockered legs and grinning down at me, surrounded by deacons and old women on their knees praying. God had not struck Westley dead for taking his name in vain or for lying in the temple(Hughes).” This basically proves that he felt ashamed so he did something that he thought was right at the moment . I relate to this because as I was in school as a young kid I use to feel like I had to do things to fit in with a certain friend group .
