Since I am such an avid lover of fairy tales, it has been hard to pinpoint exactly which topic I would like to discuss. While I am a human services major, I am considering writing about fairy tales and psychology. This would possibly include the blatant disrespect and emotional immaturity of the adults, the growth that the main characters must go through as a result, and if there are any callbacks to mental illness or specific human behaviors throughout these stories. I did find an interesting article called “Princes Charming are not all made equal. The social cognition of mating strategies in four classical fairy tales” by Lorenza Lucci Basili and Pier Luigi Sacco. In the article, they go over multiple fairy tales and use them as examples to explain something called the “Tie-Up Theory”. This is used to dissect how classic fairy tales depict male and female interactions beyond stereotypes. They emphasize individual traits that make partners fit together and how they tie into human behavior.

Tess, your ideas are quite interesting and brainy. It’s funny when I think of the “mating strategies” in fairy tales—climbing up someone’s long hair, bargaining with dwarfs to obtain possession of the mainden’s dead body, having the tiniest feet in the kingdom. I look forward to see where you end up going with this.
I think it is an amazing idea that you want to combine your major with your writing. I don’t know how I would do the same with my major. Psychology goes so well with this type of research paper, you get to do a deep dive into the characters psyche and nit pick and breakdown a character and their qualities. I believe that you will get an A on your research paper, your ideas seem well thought out and it seems like you already have the blueprint done.
Hi Tess , I think it’s an amazing idea to combine the two because it’ll open people’s mind to think deeper and outside the box rather than just to think inside the box . I also think that you will get great grade on this paper and you will inspire people to actually make the same connection one day .
