The idea that I came across in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” in which I would’ve missed if I hadn’t read the article by the author in Activity 1 was basically the importance on the changes in emotions to the grandmother because at first, she seemed like she didn’t really care about anything but herself. Then throughout the whole story she kept expressing to the Misfit about how she felt. By the end of the story before dying, the grandmother’s emotions changed and actually felt like a grandmother to the Misfit as she saw him as one of her kids. I would’ve probably missed the purpose of the change in emotions if I hadn’t read the other article because it played a big role in the story for the grandmother, from being careless to actually caring for someone. I actually find changes in emotions significant because it shows how people can change from the way they used to be.

Hey john I totally agree whit you, of what you’re saying about the grandmother’s emotional journey in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” It’s crazy how she starts off seeming all sel centered behavior, but then as the story continues, we see her feelings evolve especially towards the Misfit. That shift from selfishness to genuine care is a big deal, and it adds so much depth to her character, It’s like a reminder that people can surprise you with how much they can change.
John, thanks for the good observations. The Grandmother’s is quite radical, isn’t it? Throughout the story, readers see her selfishness, ignorance, and hypocrisy. Even when she starts telling the Misfit to pray and repent, we can see that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. But in that one final moment of grace, she truly sees the pain and need of another human being. As the Misfit commented, she would have been a good woman if there had been someone there to shoot every minute of the day.
Hey , John I agree to an extent. I say this because maybe the grandmother’s emotions only changed because she had a gun to her head . If she didn’t have a gun to her head & wasn’t taken by the misfit then do you really think her emotions would have changed? A narcissistic person never changed their ways. So I think she would’ve continued to be the ignorant racist person that she was in the article .
Hi John, I also agree with you regarding the grandmother and her behavior in the story. She was so self-centered at the beginning of the story but by the end she did seem to have change of heart or was it because she had a gun to her head? I believe that she did change in her emotions. Like you say perfectly, I believe that changes in emotions are significant. People can change from the way they used to be. I feel that all people deserve the chance to make a change to themselves.
Your analysis of the grandmother’s transformation in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” is insightful. Indeed, without understanding the significance of her changing emotions, one might overlook the profound shift in her character from self-centeredness to genuine care for others, exemplified in her interaction with the Misfit. This demonstrates the complexity of human nature and the capacity for transformation, a theme that enriches the story’s depth and resonance.
