I don’t think I have ever had a problem with reading poetry. I have always loved poetry, it is something near and dear to me and I enjoy writing it myself. In the past two weeks, I think my ability to read poetry has gotten better so far. “The Lake Isle of Innisfree,” poem is an example of a poem that was harder to understand at first, but I got it later after discussing it. The poem, “My Last Duchess,” was very confusing at first, but after the video we watched in class and the discussion, I can understand now. Although poems seem to be hard to understand at first, sometimes the meaning is easier than we think. Poems are deep, but sometimes the meaning is exactly what it says. I learned this from the poems we have read. There are different ways to dissect a poem. We can break them down and use context clues to help.

Hi Sanaya, I do agree with you on how the meaning behind poems is exactly what it says. I feel like we as readers kind of overcomplicate ourselves by trying to understand poems as soon as we read them the first time, but with a few context clues like you stated, and rereading the poem maybe 2 or 3 times, we can fully grasp and understand what meaning these poets are attempting to convey to us readers.
That’s great to hear that we both share a strong appreciation for poetry. I agree that “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” can be a bit challenging at first, but when we discussed it in class it made it easier. I also found “My Last Duchess” confusing initially but as you said the video and me just re-reading it helped a lot. Keep up the great work with your poetry reading I know its not as easy.
Yes I absolutely agree ! I have written poetry myself my entire life. I do this through music. Music has become a kind of therapeutic method for me to express myself. One way I write my music is to start with a poem. I would write a simple poem, use that as my verses and then simply apply it to a chord or beat after. Poetry is a little hard to understand if read too quickly or the terminology is different from what we are used to. It also helps me understand when our professor goes over it and breaks it down into parts.
