The title and primary source I am writing about is ” Salvation “by Langston Huges. Langston was under pressure from his church rather than being given the chance to accept, God willing. Gale Contemporary Heroes and Heroines: Langston Hughes biography The main idea of the secondary source is: These short stories provided Hughes with another opportunity to showcase the problems facing African Americans Penn State University Press: The Embodied Freedom of Langston Hughes The secondary source supports my thesis because Hughes described the full range of black experiences–the beautiful and the ugly, the good and the bad–doing so in a way that was not only incredibly personal but also communal, universal even, in the most fundamental sense.

In this narrative, Mathilde made the terrible error of borrowing a necklace in an effort to appear wealthy and higher class. She then had to deal with the consequences when she lost the necklace and had to endure 10 years of agony before repaying her debts and learning her lesson. This caught my attention because so many people overlook the existence of karma. Anything you do at night will come back to haunt you.
Flannery O’Connor demonstrates how racism is taught in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” (a novel). My personal favorite was the granny character. She made racial jokes, was critical of black people, and exudes pride. Since they harbored such a great amount of anger, I think the accident that occurred was their karma. She moved around with an air of intoxication. Because of this attitude, she made poor choices. To boost her self-confidence, she boasts to the kids about a variety of things. She took pleasure in the kids’ emotions. She centered the entire trip around herself and demonstrated how much power she wielded over everyone with whom she came into contact.
The number of universal and personal experiences I discovered while reading Oedipus the King astounded me. First, there was karma. The drama explores the struggle between karma and morality, a perennial problem facing people today. Oedipus has the ability to make decisions that will ultimately lead to a catastrophe even though he is destined to kill his father and marry his mother.
We look at this man’s words and yours, my king, and we find both have spoken them in anger. We need no angry words but only thought. how we may best hit the God’s meaning for us. This remark caught my attention the most because, despite what people often claim, some things can be painful to hear and express. When they do, it hurts so much that we don’t stop to consider the impact of our words or the harm they may cause. We never apologize after angry speech and continue. When we finally realize how much harm our words caused, it is already too late.
I would describe the boy from the novel “Arby” by James Joynce as someone vulnerable and emotional. He got lost in his feelings and lust for his friend’s sister. He has never experienced this feeling and he doesn’t know the proper way to express it. He created a fantasy in his head he believed would work and at first, he seemed like he received some thrill or rush from it but reality hit, and he realized he started to lose himself. I believe the message the narrator was trying to convey is getting lost in your emotions is possible. Make impulse decisions will always have a consequence and lesson. It’s up to you on which one you’re willing to receive and what effect you allow that emotion to have after something happens. Life is already unpredictable.
The first character from “The Lesson” I pick is Miss Moore. I believe she wanted to teach the kids that it’s so much more in this world then what they have Seen. she wants them to know they are just as important as every other kid that shopping in that toy store. The kids might have to work harder but it is something that can happen. I believe that experience taught them to respect each other and other people more and take live more seriously. I can relate to the kids in a way because I use to do things and make fun of people for having or doing things I couldn’t have because it made me feel better. Until I had seen more and started experiencing more. Now I respect people who have and don’t have. The second character from “The Lesson” I picked is Mercedes. I picked her because of her confidence going in the store knowing she didn’t have no money to get anything from the store, but she felt like she belonged there. She walked down the aisle proud and looking around. She was proud to speak about her cat and desk letting the kids know that regardless of where she’s at she worth the same as the stuff in the store.
I would analyze the character of the story as a kid who was lost. He knew he wanted to do something but wasn’t able to gain the lesson from it because it wasn’t his time. Langston felt the pressure from his family and friends, the pressure for proving has a part of something his elders find important. I would say Langston is a child, hurt, pressured and confused embarrassed because he was sitting Infront of the church and surrounded by a crowd of people. He was misguided because of what the aunt said and confused on giving your life to God was. He said he felt like was saved from sin but not really saved. At the end of the story, he gave into the pressure, he followed after what everyone wanted him to do because he didn’t want to disappoint or be left behind. He changed because he lost faith in God, He didn’t follow his instant and made a major decision he regretted.
I think the reason we were given “The handsome drowned man in the world as a first story was to remind us to accept each other. To accept people who they are and allow them to be who they are. People are naturally bias towards others without realizing it. We judge people based on what we feel like is normal or correct without realizing the correct way is based on the persons acceptations. The women in the village thought that if the man lived in the village his house would have had the widest doors, the highest ceilings and the strongest bed floors (3). The women even started comparing their own men to him without knowing where or who he was (3). Once the women realized the struggle, he must have gone through their feelings changed. Hey can see him in life condemned to going through the door sideways, cracking his head on the crossbeams, remaining on his feet during visits, not knowing what to do with his, sea lion hands while the lady of the house looked for her most resistant chair and begged him (4). This part of the story shows how much people can get caught in an illusion when it comes to something we want that we don’t see it for what it really is.
