For my research essay I will be using “The Lesson” By Toni Cade Bambara
“Sylvia emerges from her trip with a different view of her world and a deeper understanding of her reality than she had in the beginning, she wonders about the people who can afford the toys, she reflects on her living situation, and she takes time to process the lesson she has learned.”
I have found some biographical articles that will support my thesis.
I used the JSTOR database and I was able to find many articles about the short story and author. I had to narrow down what I could use based on relevance to my thesis.

James, thank you for getting this started. Your thesis about the various changes in the narrator of “The Lesson” is a good one that can be developed into a substantial final draft amplified by your documented research efforts.
James, I like your thesis statement and how you incorporated the different factors that led to Sylvia learning her lesson. The fact that you’re also using biographical articles is interesting because often times stories are reflective of the author’s life and in order to understand a story, we have to understand the person that wrote it.
