In writing the Essay # 1, I realized that I struggled with proper formatting and misused quotes, which weakened my argument. My citations were inconsistent, and I did not integrate quotes smoothly into the text. Also after reading Professor’s comment, I realized that I used too much of the abstract language which clouded my message, making it harder to communicate clearly. These mistakes obstructed the overall flow and clarity of my essay. Moving forward, I plan to focus on improving my formatting by closely following MLA guideline. Additionally, I will work on selecting more relevant quotes and include them naturally, ensuring they support my points effectively.

Michal, it’s great that you’re reflecting on Essay #1 and identifying areas for improvement. Recognizing that you struggled with formatting and misused quotes is essential in the learning process. Taking note of the inconsistent citations and the overuse of abstract language shows that you’re committed to enhancing the quality of your writing. Your plan to improve formatting by following the MLA guidelines and selecting more relevant quotes is commendable. Additionally, working on integrating quotes naturally into your text to support your arguments effectively will strengthen your future essays. Keep up the excellent work!
Michael, thanks for the candid post. Yes, this professor does not relate to abstract language unless it is illustrated with specific scenes/dialogue from the story. That student sample essay is the perfect example of abstract language that goes all over the place and doesn’t say much. It’s interesting that some students were able to critique the formatting in the sample essay, but had the same formatting errors in their own essay. Your post is self-aware, and I think that even more than being careful about MLA formatting, it you keep your language specific and not generic, you will produce good essays.
Hey Michal, thanks for being so transparent with us! Guess what? Youre not the only one. I also wrote an essay that was formatted incorrectly and my font was totally wrong. As I was trying to edit my paper I didnt realize that when I made it double spaced it changed my font as well as un-indented my paragraphs and I submitted it anyway. Additionally, from this assignment and reading other postings I realized that we arent the only ones who made this mistake and its absolutely okay, because with the Professors feedback and the support from one another the next few papers for the rest of the semester will be better. Nevertheless, my works cited page was completely incorrect I thought I created another page for it but I guess as I edited my paper that changed and I disregarded what the professor said and put my letters in bold. This essay was a “wake up call” and moving forward we will do better. You got this!
