What is your understanding of the prewriting assignment in Week 1 Activity. 10? What do you have to do? What is the purpose of the prewriting assignment?
Prewriting is the preparation process that you complete before you actually write your paper, essay or summary. Prewriting helps you organize your thoughts, plan your research or writing, and clarify your thesis. This week, we had to read “The Most Handsome Drowned Man” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and “Overview of ‘The Most Handsome Drowned Man’” by Dean Rader. After which, we had to review the supporting guides in Week 1. The PowerPoints on Thesis Statements and “How to Insert Quotations into a Literary Essay”, were reviewed. Also, Format Illustration/Format Matters Video and MLA Citation guide were reviewed as well. Reading the Directions for Sample Student Essay and reading the Sample Student Essay were also done. The purpose of this prewriting assignment was to brainstorming ideas that allows us to connect with main points and highlights areas that need additional analysis or supporting evidence.

Hi Jenefeir, I found your explanation about the importance of the prewriting assignment in understanding and analyzing a sample literary essay very insightful. It effectively highlights the significance of following specific steps and engaging in various activities, significantly benefiting students. Thank you for emphasizing the purpose of the prewriting assignment, which is to equip students with the necessary tools to effectively prepare for writing their essays based on the provided samples and guidelines. This resonated with me.
Zaria, try to be more specific in your comments.
Jenefeir, great comments! However, there is no mention of brainstorming here. I’m not asking anyone to brainstorm. But yes, as you write, I do ask students to review the various guides in the activities.
Hi Miss Conway. Thanks for the clarification.
Hi Jenefeir. I can totally agree with your thought of prewriting. Free writing helps with all of the above, organizing your thoughts, planning your research or writing, clarifying your thesis and saves so much time. I believe in generating ideas, and just clarifying your purpose and conducting your research properly. You need to gather proper information and evidence to support your main points or evidence. Afterwards, if you don’t feel confident you can always go back and revise. Feedback and revision will always be needed:).
Monica, please keep your comments relevant to the prompt. For example, there is no mention of free writing in Activity 10. What research are you referring to in Activity 10?
Hi jenefeir!
I think you did a wonderful job on your post this week. And I appreciate your perspective on the prompt we were given, especially since it was similar to my own post. I also laid out the steps and i provided an overview of what is expected of us for this pre-writing assignment, which you did, thoroughly in a way that can be understood. I do, however, slightly disagree with your point that stated that this pre-writing assignment is to aid in brainstorming instead I would say that it will prepare us by providing a mindset for us students before going into writing our essays. Additionally, helping us to lay out a path to achieving a successful essay. Regardless of my disagreement with this section, I agree with everything else that you said in your post.
