In ”A good man is hard to find” I think it’s a story that inside is about the massacre of an entire family, father, mother, children and grandmother, by a convicted murderer and two of the accomplices. The family takes a road trip and dies on the way to their destination. However, the grandmother is a believing woman who, from my point of view, I see as hypocritical because whoever is religious cannot be speaking lies and/or have classism before others; deception is experienced with her because she appears to be another person even in a quite shameless way since even if she tries to disguise it, she is hypocritical and is the one who leads her family to obtain something tragic, that is why we should not deceive prejudices based on cataloging with where we judge people based on how they look without even knowing who they really are.

While reading about Oedipus Rex whose importance is capital for Western civilization. In addition to being a masterpiece from the theatrical point of view, I understood that Jocasta also influences as a protagonist of this reading since she is his mother. His experience or his timeless human behavior gave me a lot of intrigue as I read because he talks about where we come from and that makes me think of a family tree; although his wife asked him not to continue with the same investigation. Reading about the couple that the mother commits suicide when the marriage comes to light and suicide is generally associated with an individual act, with a very clear purpose despite the fact that there are ways to prevent it, it is usually difficult because perhaps not everyone has support powerful enough to prevent it. Oedipus orders an investigation and urges the people to hand over the culprit.
”Araby” is a powerfully emotional story. In my point of view, this reading represents the confrontation of a child with frustration who plays in the street, that is, he is very young, and he cannot get what he wants because he does not depend on himself but rather on his uncle to go to the bazaar. He wanted to go to the bazaar because the girl he liked wanted to go, he saw this as an opportunity to win his heart to buy her a gift since she wanted to go to the same place. He is probably in a hurry and perhaps time will give him an answer since he was short of money and understanding that this was the main conflict of this reading, it may also be that the boy is vain and wants to conquer the girl with details. However, this reading can perhaps indicate how we are maturing from youth to adulthood.
The two characters from Toni Cade Bambara’s “The Lesson” that I’ll talk about are Sylvia and Miss Moore. Sylvia is shown to be an arrogant person who doesn’t mind expressing herself, speaking fluently and unhindered, singing the truths if necessary, and freely just as she also seemed to dislike Miss. Moore. Sylvia got a different experience compared to the others as she was angry and distressed visiting FAO Schwarz because the prices in the store were close to what it might cost to feed some families meaning they were very expensive this showed the Economic inequality within their society. In the end, she ended up being an optical person to improve her life. In addition, Miss Moore is an educated person, a black woman who sought improvement for the children and her understanding of Sylvia’s thoughts towards her. However, the trip to FAO Schwarz was definitely an eye-opening experience for both Sylvia and all the children and it really gave them what society is like for different groups of people this was something that really made her see what Miss. Moore shared with her the same point of view on the unbalanced system in their society.
I think the teacher might have assigned ”The Most Handsome Drowned Man” by Gabriel García Márquez as the first story of the course because we can realize that we don’t choose how we want to be in the world. Therefore, the fact that men consider making houses with much wider doors, understanding that this helps us to have empathy for human beings, Esteban was a tall, handsome and strong man. However, as time passes in Latin cultures, phallocracy predominates and in the situation of having found a drowned man, the men of the town showed solidarity with him. We live in a society where they make you feel present for being famous, and /or have money etc. However, this story helps us understand the power of our imagination because as I read it, I wonder about the uncertainties that the people who found the drowned man must have had and still gave him a dignified burial without knowing his life and education.
