What most impacted my view of poetry from this week was the How to Read a Poem article. I’m only just realizing that you need some sort of guidance to understand leveled (mostly artistic) media. I’ve learned, like all interesting media, you must learn how to interpret information in an accurate and cohesive manner. Making things too convoluted can easily muddy your thought process and the subject matter itself. I’ve always had trouble understanding the lineation within poetic stanzas but this article showed a perspective that played close to my interests.
As a rhythmically focused person, I enjoyed the part in the article that mentioned the relationship between music and poetry. “Some poets think of their words as music flowing from a horn; they think of phrases the way a saxophonist might.” For me, this is a great tip to keep in mind when reading artful writing.

Isabella, thanks for this early post. You express it so well when you write that people sometimes need guidance when approaching poetry. I don’t know what you mean by “leveled media” though. Is this a new term I should know about? As someone very connected to rhythm and music, poetry may come more naturally to you. Thanks for the very good comments.
Hey Professor, by leveled media I meant more poetic entertainment in a sense. As an example, I would say movies that stress importance on cinematography, storyboarding, score, etc.
Also, I don’t know if “leveled media” is a term people use. I just thought it sounded good and it simplified my thoughts.
So don’t worry, you’re not missing out! 😀
Isabella, thank you for the explanation. I like that you thought “it sounded good.” I think you are a poet at heart. Glad I wasn’t missing out on some new term I should know about!
Hello Isabella I also found the How to Read a Poem article impactful as it helped me get a better understanding on how to approach a poem. I used to think that I could read a poem without any lessons on how to, as they all look quite simple and that if I didn’t understand the poem then it was just too difficult for me. However, The article definitely helped me and I hope that I can get a better understanding of poems now.
