I feel Like that the interior of “A good man is hard to find” is one that focuses on the true character of a person. The Grandmother who refers to herself constantly as a “lady” (she even dresses in a manner that in the event that there is an accident those who come upon her will know by her dress that she was a lady) is anything but, she’s shallow, and judgmental. She looks down on her family and others, seeing herself as better, she also prideful (even after realizing that she had the address wrong she allowed the family to continue (thus sealing their fate). The “Misfit” while appearing (by his way of speaking respectfully showing some sort of warmth towards the mother when asking if she’d like to join Bailey. and his embarrassment of being without a shirt in the presence of women) comes off as a southern gentleman is in reality a murderous monster who is unfeeling.

Hi Joseph,
I agree with your answer to discussion 8, I feel like the grandma believed she was very important and wanted the world to revolve around her. In reality, she was a very arrogant, rude, racist, and judgmental person. All of these traits that she had with her led her to a very tragic ending for her and her family. I find it interesting how the misfit was a very cold-hearted killer and found it crazy how he let her speak to her just to end up killing her in the end.
Hi Joseph! I relate to your interpretation of the characters. Both points that you highlighted are very key about the grandmother. Her constantly referring to herself as a ‘lady” and worrying about her outfit being topnotch in case she happen to die that day are pretty extreme indicators of how conceited and narrow-minded her character is. Since the very beginning of the story all her actions were geared towards manipulating her family into getting her way about whatever it is.
I agree with what you said. The story does focus on the characteristics of the grandmother and the misfit, the antagonist. The grandmother’s pride does get the family killed and the fact that the misfit is more worried that he doesn’t have a shirt on in the presence of a woman than the fact that he is going to have to kill them all after the grandmother recognizes him shows that both the grandmother and the misfit have do not have their priorities straight in a messed-up way.
Hi Joseph,
The interpretation you have come up with is very specific; the thoughtful explanation of those events is important since the audience can perceive the critical idea of prejudice. Same to you, The most dramatic part for me was when she dressed appropriately (dressed as a “lady”) for the trip considering that something bad would happen to them. As she constantly describes herself as a “lady,” she transmits vanity and egocentrism throughout the story and consequently ends up in a sad ending for her and her family.
