Odalis Ortega Discussion 5

In most of these fairytales the downfall of many characters are either their narcissism or their naivety. In “Bluebeard” we see the main character ignore her instinctual instinct of distrust towards the perpetrator and that led to her demise. this repeating theme resonates strongly with me as it can relate to real world problems. Women often ignore “red flags” in men so that they can live out their romantic fantasies and more often than not it ends up horribly. Although many can say that her downfall was her “nosiness“ due to the key and the initial warning about not having access, everything would’ve never happened had she listened to her gut feeling and not gone with him. The running theme of naivety is instilled in young girls and is demonstrated in fairytales along with the consequences of it. Narcissism is also the reason why the “villains” meet their downfall. It’s demonstrated in Snow White. The queens jealousy of the beauty had by snowy white leads her to a journey of hatred and jealousy.  Her narcissism not only led her to failure as she did not complete her goal of getting rid of Snow White but also led her to her painful demise.
