human behaviors that I have witnessed in my own life that resemble the ones in Oedipus the King are self awareness and discovery. Many people often in their lives go through an identity crisis and then embark in a journey to find out who they are and what they’re destined for just like Oedipus. Often people are self aware of what their personality and character are like which is similar to Oedipus. When oedipus finds out about his prophecy he tries to stop it only to end up running right into his destiny. The discovery of such prophecy influenced his character to take action/responsibility. Throughout the story the readers see the predicament he is placed and upon judging his character it’s shown that his positive characteristics outweigh his negative ones such as arrogance. This reflects upon real life circumstances and Behavior as outside circumstances can often lead to a change of both behavior and identity. This can be found in a persons life as they discover their identity,sexuality, likes/dislikes along with what they want to be in the future as they go on a journey to discover themselves.

Reading your discussion piece made me realize that indeed oedipus story has expressed majority the point of identity crisis. I can see the connections you stated between someone’s wants beforehand and the change after the situation one must go through. Great point honestly.
Odalis, thanks for the good comments about the human impulse to find one’s identity. We think of this as a good thing; unfortunately for Oedipus, the result of the search was tragic. I agree that the king’s good qualities do outweigh some of his human flaws.
