The story of “Oedipus the King” highlight some human’s behaviors that you can see every day in the society. However, one that that resonates with me is running away from your own problems rather than face it with courage. When Jocasta knew the truth about Oedipus, she chose to kill herself instead of staying with him to face it because it was the easiest choice. She did not even think about her children. Her behavior reminds me to myself when I faced a difficult decision in the past. I used to ignore my problems instead off solved it because I was only thinking about the consequences. I liked to play it safe. I used to take the easy way out, so the quicker it is the better I will get rid of it. I think that it is usual in our society nowadays, people tend to solve problems quick as possible rather than face it that why the death rate from suicidal is increasing because death is one of the quicker and easier way to get rid of your problems.

Anta, these are very good observations. I’m sure we’ve all seen people who avoid problems at all costs, not realizing that often avoidance only complicates the situation. I also appreciate your comments about how sometimes people make quick halfway solutions. This reminds me of treating symptoms of a disease rather than getting to the root cause.
