The idea of omnivore dilemma that Pollan talks about is that difficult decision about what to eat. If you eat meat or not, but more than that, all decisions about what to eat. “The organic apple or the conventional? And if the organic, the local one or the imported?” (Pollan 1).
8. Pollan says that as part of civilization, we are walking in the direction of being more conscious about the topic. Also, philosophers and organizations gives us reasons to think it’s not good to eat meat. The culture also plays a role on that change. Pollan states that “the cultural norms and rituals that used to allow people to eat meat without agonizing about it have broken down for other reasons” (3).
9. Is the “sentiment and brutality exist side by side” (Pollan 3). He explains how we have sentiments for animals that are in our lives, but at the same time we can be brutal with animals that are out of our view. This is one of the reasons that we may think that it’s okay to eat a pig and at the same time have sentiments for a dog, while they are both intelligent animals.
10. It’s significant because on Berger’s essay he states that the everyday contact with animals, make us remind how they are like us and looking into their eyes we can see their emotions. So that’s why it’s important.

HI! I agree with you in question 9. I also think we be unfair with animals we don’t see on our everyday lives since as you mentioned, they can be as intelligent as dogs but we choose to consume them instead. Do you think there should be a change in the way we treat other species that we don’t have contact with everyday ? Personally I think we just have to keep in mind where the food we eat comes from, so we can make better eating choices and habits to contribute to animal rights awareness.
