Dear Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie,
I have watched your TedTalk “We Should All Be Feminists” where you talk about feminism and the gender roles. There was a lot that stood out for me especially the fact about where you talk about how before they used to treat women and they still women like that, not as often of course but they still do. Also the impact gender roles has on the world. I agree that women don’t get the recognition they deserve. They do so much and yet for others they see that women haven’t done anything. In my family, they tell me that women are supposed to clean and cook. I don’t think that way and I tell them just because I’m a woman does not mean I have to cook and clean(I don’t cook at all even if they tell me to). I agree with you on the part where men. also should have responsibility especially if the woman works. The responsibility should be equal in a partnership, in a family. This takes us to gender roles just like how you said. Women are supposed to stay home and be in charge of the house while men work. A woman who is successful should make themselves smaller so they don’t threaten the man which I think is so dumb. Both, females and males can be successful and applaud for each other, there is nothing wrong with that. All this gender roles and how women should do their “job” is unfair and is considered gender discrimination. We need to put an end to this, come together and just support one another. At the end of the day we are all humans and deserve the same rights and support.
