In the article “Snapchat Wants You to Post. It is Willing to Pay Millions” by Taylor Lorenz, the author discusses the lack of community that Snapchat has had recently compared to other big apps like TikTok or Instagram. In addition, Snapchat came out with a feature called Spotlight. Spotlight is a TikTok-like feature on Snapchat that young influencers have now found out that if you just post a video to Spotlight and it does well you could get paid well. Many young people have used this method to make money and pay for things like college or important needs. The only issue that Spotlight has is that it lacks the community based on the lack of people on Snapchat as well the big influencers are the ones that are usually making money off of views whilst small content creators make money by selling merchandise and doing sponsorships with other companies. Me personally, social media is not needed. I mainly use social media to communicate with people that I would not be able to see in person or when I am bored. I only post on my story if I wear something nice or with family or friends. From reading this article and playing fake I have learned that social media is an easy tool that can be used positively to become wealthy or it can be used negatively to do things like make fun of someone or to spread false information.

I love the way you briefly summarized the article and of course added your own experience. I definitely agree wit you when you said you be on social media to communicate and yes I feel we don’t need social. It’s kind of like a distraction because you don’t really focus on the important things in life such as building relationships, bonds, family and etc.
I agree, we all had personal experience with social media ( Snapchat) and we all got our different opinions. Unfortunate I disagree cause I love social media but your summary was well written and informative. To be honest You can be anyone you want on social media without anyone judging you , some people feel comfortable texting behind a screen and that’s totally natural. That’s how we gain confidence, that’s how I gain mines.
I found this summary useful due to the fact that you stated how young people can make money multiple ways by creating content & providing the money for important expenses. I agree with your statement on Snapchat having less admins nowadays and how it takes away the opportunity from small creators expanding since it has a small community. I also agree with where you mentioned that when you are on social media, it’s only for events that you attend to and posts that are relevant to your everyday life.
