In the article “Snapchat wants you to post, it is Willing to Pay Millions” by Taylor Lorenz is about how snapchat is a social media platform that allows people to make profit off of their content fluently. Taylor mentions how Snapchat was initially designed as a messaging app and later on with the influence of TikTok, opened new opportunities. For people to make money through an objective called Spotlight. Spotlight opened doors for many young Snapchat users. For example a woman named Katie Feeney who was just 18 years old started to post unboxing videos on spotlight making over one million dollars, allowing her to go to colleges she never thought were reachable. Another example is about Andrea Romo posted a spotlight that got a lot of attention leading her to make half a million dollars. Andrea, who had no had no prior following indicates that you don’t need prior experience with content creation to make money. This can be competitive as Cam Casey says because it can be easy to make money once or a few times but it is hard to keep as a job.
After reading this article, I was shocked to see how easy it is to make money off of Snapchat. I have been using Snapchat since the 5th grade and this is the first time I have heard of the benefits throughout Spotlight.

I agree with this response because it points out something I didn’t know about Snapchat. Even though I don’t use Snapchat, it’s surprising to learn that people can make money just by posting on Spotlight. The examples in the article, like Katie Feeney making over a million dollars from unboxing videos, show how much you can earn. I also didn’t realize that you don’t even need a big following, like Andrea Romo proved. It’s interesting to see how social media platforms are becoming ways for people to earn money, not just for entertainment or connecting with friends.
