The Danger of a single story

In the “Ted talk” “The Danger of a single story”, by Chimanda Adichie, she talks about the judgment and assumptions she faced because of her culture, because she’s Nigerian. Not only that but she made assumptions herself about other cultures as well because of the books she read. She tells different stories about moments were she experienced one single story like the roommate story. Her roommate was very curious and made certain perspectives about her that can be true and can be wrong. But the point is that she assumed. She wants to let us know that we can break free of a one single story and make our own story. Instead of letting other people write it for us because of where  we’re from, or color of our skin and even things we surround ourselves with.

A time we’re I experienced a one single story was whenever I’m out with friends, my black friends were always cheerful and one time my friend invited a Asian kid, and my other friends was very friendly but one of them was asking very uncomfortable and unique questions, and she wasn’t tryna be disrespectful but she was just curious because she heard things about that certain race and thought it was true. We always told her to stop assuming things about everything race cause she always had her own opinions because of things she heard about them. I never realized that I was one single story and I realized we’re surrounded by one single story.
