In “The Danger of a Single Story,” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talks about her personal experiences growing up in Nigeria and how only hearing one story about a place or people can lead to misunderstandings. She shares how, growing up in Nigeria, reading mostly foreign books made her think that only stories from other countries were important. By discovering African writers, she realized that people from her own culture also had meaningful stories. Adichie shows that knowing many different stories helps us see people more clearly and understand their true experiences, more than from one point of view.
I agree with Adichie that listening to only one side of the story can give you biases and misunderstanding. This reading is probably assigned to help us understand and avoid these different views by showing us to look at multiple views.
