Summary
The ted talk is about a young black women that came from Nigeria. She talks about her stereotypical experiences in her life. Became a writer at a very young age. Mostly wrote about stories she read because that's all she knew. This young lady Chimamanda Adichie discovered African books and it had changed her views on books. Adichie had a wealthy family. But came to the U.S for college. Roommate thought less of her simply because she came from a foreign country. Everyone see her as a African nothing more nor less. As she spent time in the U.S she gain a better understanding on why people viewed her in that way. The ted talk speaker goes more into how society views Africans based on what people say. Her professor judged her novel because it didn't start with a sad depressing story. The sob story sociality created. Adichie views didn't change about Mexicans until she went to Guadalajara. She blames the media. That's when she realize that the single story that tell Is making other think differently about one another. A student commented on her novel about nigeran men being abusers. And what that speaker basically said was don't believe everything you read. To help them Understand she made connections with them by giving her point of view about how she once felt about certain American books. She starts to bring up sad stories in her life and thought about telling them. Simply because that's what people are expecting from her novel. She also goes into telling her audience how these sad stories paints or creates an horrible image about people especially foreigners. Archie how things would've changed if people talks about the good by using her roommate as an example. With doing that she is helping young writers put their story out there. Trying to create a better society and place
