Why study Economics?

The Economics major is both a practical decision and a strategic play. Students acquire the knowledge and analytical skills to better handle their own participation in our market system, as consumers, workers, taxpayers, entrepreneurs, and investors.

The field prepares more sophisticated citizens with a broader understanding of things like money, taxes and foreign trade along with resource use and regulations. In addition, the field offers an unmatched foundation for careers in business, finance, insurance, real estate, consulting, law and the public sector. Along with a focus on markets, “big picture” concerns include equality, fairness, social justice, job stability, and our future.

Having transferred to a four-year college with my degree from BMCC, I can assure you that the things you learn at BMCC, both inside and outside the classroom, engaging with the Economics, Equality and Environment Club, will be crucial and extremely valuable in your next endeavors.
